Welcome students!

Welcome to the second grade!

We will begin with introductions! I will introduce myself first and

then we will move on to each student.

Each student will quickly tell three interesting facts about

themselves.

Be listening for things you might have in common with someone

new.

All about Mrs. Mendoza

This is my first year teaching and first time teaching second

grade!

I graduated from BYU and LSU in order to become a teacher!

I have been married for two years, and my husband and I love to
go on adventures, such as hiking in Yosemite!

Classroom Goals

Each student will gain the knowledge and skills needed to

progress to the third grade.

The teacher and students will help make the classroom a

supportive atmosphere where learning and fun can take place.

Each student feels comfortable and makes new friends and new
memories throughout their time in this classroom.

Seating Chart

Mrs. Mendoza will create a seating chart that will change

periodically throughout the school year.

Please keep your desk organized and clean. Mrs. Mendoza may
check your desk at any time of the day.

Table materials should be respected and treated with care, Mrs.

Mendoza will not be replacing if broken.

Table points will be earned throughout the trimester and winners

will win lunch from Mrs. Mendoza

Table captains will be appointed each Monday and are

responsible for things such as maintaining class materials,
collecting papers, etc.

Each time a unit is finished, students will be tested to evaluate

mastery of standards

Quizzes will be given after every two subunits to check

understanding

Students will be asked to completely show their work on each

assignment in order for Mrs. Mendoza to help and recognize
understanding and completion.

Social Studies

Social studies lessons will be given on Mondays and Wednesday

Students will cover a variety of lessons including:

Geography

Maps

Government

Indian Cultures

Early inventors from around the world

All about the Presidents of the USA

Earth Science

Second grade is assigned Earth science to study this year.

Science lessons will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week.

Students will cover a variety of lessons including:

The layers of the Earth

Volcanos

Natural disasters

The Solar System

Pollution

Earths water

Preserving out Earth

Physical Education

If permitted, P.E. will be done on Mondays, Wednesdays, and

Fridays after lunch.

Students will engage in various activities including:

Capture the Flag

Foot races

Basketball

Soccer

Kickball

Other class favorites! (I am open to suggestions!)

Homework

Students are responsible for turning in a completed homework

packet each Friday.

Homework will consist of various reviews of lessons that correlate

with subject matter being taught in the class that week.

Students are also responsible for reading at home for 30 minutes

each night with an adult.

Students will be asked to complete homework during

extracurricular activities if not turned in or unfinished at due
date.

Personal Belongings

Personal belongings will remain in cubbies throughout the day.

Water bottles are allowed at each students desk if desired.

Snacks and food will only be eaten during recess outside of the
classroom.

Asking for Help

Mrs. Mendoza is more than happy to help with anything! Please

see me with any questions or concerns that may come about.

Mrs. Mendoza will be in her classroom at 7:30am each morning

and until 4:00pm each afternoon. Visitors are welcomed!

Being Responsible

Mrs. Mendozas Second Grade Students are Responsible for

Taking care of school and classroom property

Reporting any and all emergencies

Going to the bathroom during recess time

Helping anyone in need and asking for help
