Travel and Tourism Outline

Description:
This course introduces students to the nature of the tourism industry on a local, national, and
global level. Through virtual adventures, students will travel Europe by train, tour Parliament,
book a flight to Whistler, catch a cruise ship to the Caribbean, and more. Students will access,
interpret and communicate tourism information and enhance their creative thinking,
communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. By learning about the tourism industry
and creating a fun-filled itinerary to the destination of their choice, students will gain an
understanding and appreciation for the world and its diverse nature.

Course Objectives:
To describe the roles of business, organizations, labor, and government agencies in the
tourism industry.

To assess the effect and different travel motivators have on industry activity.
To evaluate local, national, and global tourism ventures and promotion strategies used to
attract visitors.
To identify employment opportunities in the tourism industry.
To identify famous destinations, most visited attractions, and possible activities/sights in
various locations.
To demonstrate the ability to plan activities as a potential tourist.

Assessment:
Travel and Tourism will not be given a numerical mark on the report card. Students
will be awarded a letter grade in the following manner:
E (excellent) Consistently applies required skills and concepts independently.
Includes excellent assignment quality and active involvement in class activities.
P (proficient) Frequently applies required skills and concepts independently.
Includes very good assignment quality and routine involvement in class activities.
S (satisfactory) Applies required skills and concepts with assistance. Includes
acceptableassignment quality and sufficient involvement in class activities.
L (limited) Inconsistently applies required skills and concepts. May include substandard assignment quality and limited involvement in class activities.
