LEARNING OBJECTIVES
GLO Collect, display and analyze data to solve problems.
SLO 2: Construct and interpret concrete graphs and pictographs to solve problems.
Students will:
1. Interpret data graphically.
2. Construct graphs from information.
3. Define probability.
4. Predict probable outcomes.

ASSESSMENTS
Observations:

Key Questions:

Products/Performances:

Are students able to use mathematical deduction to solve

probability questions?
Are students able to complete a bar graph?
Do students know how to label a bar graph?
What is probability?
What is a bar graph?
How do we predict outcomes?
Why did you predict those outcomes?
How can we interpret the information from our
spinner in a way we can keep track of it?
Product: bar graph analyzing probability of a
spinner.

Spinner on board. Ask students what they think it will

land on after 1 spin? Hand out 2 chips to each
students. On predictions they feel confident about
they can bet one chip.
We just made a prediction. What is a prediction? In
math, we call the odds or the chances of landing on
one of these colours probability
Body
Mini-lesson on parts of a bar graph:
1. After lesson, hand out blank bar graphs.
2. Fill in labels of bar graphs.
Check that every student has properly labelled
their bar graph.
Make a prediction on your prediction chart. Is it bad if
we guessed wrong? Should we lie about your
prediction? What happens when we change our
prediction after the spin? Why do we make predictions?
Were students able to make a valid prediction on their

prediction?
Spin the spinner 3 times. Each time in-between ask for
some predictions from all students.
1. First spin have equal colours

2. Second spin add a second orange

3. Only have purple and green on spinner
After each prediction and spin, have students fill out
their bar graph.
What happened when we changed the number of
colours on our spinner?
