Description of Activities and Setting

1. Focus and Review

Today we are going to learn about sentences. Can any tell me what a sentence
is? Sentences are a set of words that are complete with a first word, proper
capitalization and ending punctuation. That is what we are going to be going
over today in class.

2. Statement of Objective
for Student

Today we are learning about the distinguishing features of a sentence.

3. Teacher Input

4. Guided Practice

5. Independent Practice

I am first going to write a simple sentence on the smart board. The sentence is
I like to eat strawberries. I know that the first word of my sentence is I
because it is capitalized. The end of my sentence is strawberries. I know this
because there is a period that shows me thats the end of the sentence. (CFU)
How do I know this is the beginning of the sentence? How do I know where
the end of the sentence is? Great job, who has another sentence about
something they like to eat? Johnny- I like to eat blueberries. (model the same
as above with the new sentence that the student gave me)
Now that you have seen me model it we are going to practice together with
our whiteboards. The next sentence we are going to write is I like to play
with my dog. The first word of our sentence is I so we capitalize it. Space
like space to space play space with space my space dog. At the
end of our sentence we put a what? (Class Period) (CFU)Thats correct we
place a period after the word dog. Lets practice one more time with a partner
come up with a new sentence to write together. During this time I will walk
around to see how each student is writing the sentences and to see if they are
doing it correctly. (CFU).

Now we are going to practice writing more sentences on a piece of paper. I

want you to write three sentences using first word, capitalization, and ending
punctuation that we just learned.
