Mural

Introduction
Mural is any piece of artwork that painted on the
wall, ceiling and large surface. Mural can be
painted in the exterior or interior of a building.
Characteristic of the muralist and mood of the
muralist while painting mural can be reveal
through his mural. Mural usually contain a
positive message, history of the place or just
plainly enjoyment. Mural can function as making
the city a live with beautiful painting.

Description of the mural art

This mural painting depicts the story of the great warrior Hang Tuah
during the old Malacca. This painting illustrate the process of pirates
conquering another country and the life of Hang Tuah which are shown at
the bottom. This painting features the life of people and the culture
practiced during the olden days.

Mural Art 2 : Dancing Dutch

ARTIST BACKGROUND
Artist: Super Sunday
Background: Graffiti
company that was
commissioned to carry out
the graffiti project along
the
Melaka River
- It is the longest graffiti
art in Melaka and the most
prominent one we have
done so far, says Tengku
Amin Zuddin, one of the
cofounders of Super
Sunday. Our concept is
more to Malaysian
influences.

Description of the
mural art

Portrays the lifestyle and culture of the Dutch when they


invaded Malacca in 1641. The Dutch ruled Malacca for the
longest period, thus Malacca carried the Dutch elements
through dance, attires and architecture.

The happiness of the Dutch
dancers depicts the celebration of
Malaccas freedom from the
ruling of the Dutch.

The facial expression of
happiness is shown
through the Dutch
dancers who are smiling.

The Dutch dancers in the mural are
seen dancing arm in arm,
portraying the joy of celebration
shared between them.

The closeness between the
dancers suggests that they
are close friends or even
couples.

4. Connotative meaning
Green background represents
growth, renewal and rebirth. It
gives out a positive feeling,
where the freedom from Dutchs
ruling is viewed as a celebration.

The aim of this two project is to
change the perception of people on
lorong belakang which is always dirty
and dangerous to a more positive view
and wish to attract more people to
these area to appreciate arts and
architecture.
These area are aimed to be a platform
for younger generations to express
their ideas and talents to benefit the
society.
This project is in conjunction with the
Zon Bersih campaign.

Description of the
mural art

Multi-facial expression with its own meaning and


message that differs based on the viewers perception
and interpretation of it.
Causes the viewer to wonder what is actually
happening? Is there something that has agitated these
people that invoke these expressions from them?

Concept
2. Connotative meaning
Grey shows depression, sadness,
loneliness and isolation.
Grey also creates an effect to its viewer
of detachment where it is cold,
indifferent and uncaring.

The expressions portrayed could lead to a
thinking of how in the society nowadays,
some people may fell thrilled watching
other people in despair or hardship while
some might judge them and some will be

Mural Art 4 : Shah Alam

Description of the mural art

This mural art featuring the landmark of Shah Alam Masjid Sultan
Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. From the left part of this mural art, we
can found that those Shah Alam residents who love cleanliness are
working together to clean up their residence area. Besides, from the
right part of this mural art, we can found that this mural art is
probably highlighting the fact that MBSA spent a lot in putting up
those bicycle lanes around Shah Alam city center.
