MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

Worksheet
Water
Eye dropper

Brown paint
Paint brush

PROCEDURE
Introduction
Attention Grabber
Pull up the worksheet on the smart board and
explain to the students that they are each
scientists that are needed to color in a teddy bear
the perfect color of brown
Transition to Body Ask the students what they think will happen
when they add more water to the brown paint
Hand out their worksheets
Gather ideas from everyone in the class and have
them each write down their own ideas separately

Body
Then hand out a paint brush and a small
amount of brown paint
o Then together without any water have the
children color in the bear.
o Ask the students does the brown paint hide
the teddy bear?
o Using the eye dropper walk around and add
one small drop of water and tell the
students to mix it together and then paint in
the next bear
o Continue adding one drop of water for each
bear
o Then once everyone has the bear painted
discuss what the children see.
o You can then ask questions such as
1. Which bear is transparent
2. Which bear is opaque
3. How can we make our teddy bears
opaque
4. How can we make our teddy bears
transparent
If a child is with a student that is unable to
participate OR is having trouble with the
assignment please assist them
Cliffhanger/Closure
Students can identify what teddy bears are
transparent and which are opaque
Students can identify how to create an opaque or
transparent teddy bear
