1) What is your educational background?
Answer: I have a B.S. of civil engineering degree from University of Kentucky
2) Why did you choose this type of work?
Answer: I wanted to do good things for the environment so I went into a regulatory field.
3) What skills are valued in your field?
Answer: General knowledge of mining, Background in fluid mechanics, a good background in math,
highway design.
4) What are the most rewarding aspects of this work?
Answer: Knowing that your work can be helpful for the environment.
5) What degrees would you recommend someone in this field to get?
Answer: Engineering degree, mining degree, forestry degree, reclamation degree
6) If you could do things differently in your career what would it be?
Answer: Getting a P.E certification, would have been helpful in different work classification with the
state.
7) What are your greatest strengths?
Answer: Being honest, having integrity having a friendly disposition
8) What is your greatest weakness?
Answer: Not being punctual should have had better time management.
9) What is the worse decision you've made in your career?
Answer: I don't have any regrets I went to college and was able to retire at 45 by making good personal
decisions.
10) What are some things you would recommend me doing to become an employee of the state?
Answer: Exactly what you are doing going to college, make good grades and set goals for your future
after college.

1) What is your educational background?
Answer: B.S in Mining Engineering, and M.S in Civil Engineering.
2) Why did you choose this type of work?
Answer: From childhood, I always wanted to be an engineer. While in High School, I became interested
in Geology. So I took Mining Engineering as my major which is a combination of my two interests.
3) What skills are valued in your field?
Answer: At least a degree in Engineering, and gaining experience under a senior engineer.
4) What are the most rewarding aspects of this work?
Answer: At my last job at Department for Surface Mining Reclamation, we helped reclaim thousands of
acres of land damaged by Surface Mining.
5) What degrees would you recommend someone in this field to get?
Answer: At least a B.S in Engineering, preferably in Civil or Mining.
6) If you could do things differently in your career what would it be?
Answer: During two summers in my under graduate years, I was trained in hard rock mining (Iron Ore). I
could have as well gone for that.
7) What are your greatest strengths?
Answer: Rock Mechanics.
8) What is your greatest weakness?
Answer: Hydrology (Water Flow).
9) What is the worse decision you've made in your career?
College, I worked for a mining company for 2.5 years. I wish I could have left that after a few more years.
10) What are some things you would recommend me doing to become an employee of the state?

Answer: There are always lot of job openings in Transportation Cabinet for engineers. Get at least a B.S
in Civil Engineering.
