Examine the General Education learning outcomes at the end
of the syllabus. While no course is expected to help students
achieve all of those outcomes, individual courses are supposed to provide students with opportunities to move toward achieving as many of those outcomes as make sense in a given course's context. Make specific references toward your work in this course and how it indicates you are making progress toward at least three important Gen Ed outcomes. Students communicate effectively. This includes developing critical literaciesreading, writing, speaking, listening, visual understandingthat they can apply in various contexts; Organizing and presenting ideas and information visually, orally, and in writing according to standard usage; Understanding and using the elements of effective communication in interpersonal, small group, and mass settings. Throughout the course I was able to acheive a vast amount of expertise as specificed in the course outcomes page. One of the few outcomes was the ability to effectively communicate with other students. This became essential within our reviews and discussions upon topics on a weekly basis. By being able to discuss political issues from different perspectives among a diverse community of students this has given me the ability to present new information and build upon varying viewpoints. The elements of politics are not black and white so to speak but rather complex which makes this aspect of learning evergrowing with time. Another important piece of context in regards to effective communication is that it has given me the ability to organize ideas better and stregthen many arguments/stances I have.
Students think critically and creatively. This includes reasoning
effectively from available evidence; demonstrating effective problem solving; engaging in creative thinking, expression, and application; Engaging in reflective thinking and expression; Demonstrating higher-order skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation; Making connections across disciplines; Applying scientific methods to the inquiry process. This course has given me the ability to think critically and effectively in
many aspects within political science. At the beginning of this semster
we were challeged with discovering fallacies within other work and news outlets that would give us an edge over the context to see what the main point is behind the reading. This process can be applied with any other scientific branch as well. Another important factor was that there was an importance of finding connections between the ideologies learned within this course and the examples throughout other courses we were taking at the same time. By being able to communicate with students among various findings this had become essential throughout our learning and how important it was finding examples in our everday lives and how ideologies impacted them one way or another.
Students develop the knowledge and skills to be civically
engaged. This includes understanding the natural, political, historical, social, and economic underpinnings of the local, national, and global communities to which they belong; Developing the awareness of both civil rights and civil responsibilities for individual and collective action in a democracy; Engaging in service-learning for community building and an enhanced academic experience; Develop the knowledge and skills to take leadership roles. The political ideologies course has given me the knowledge necessary to be engaged throughout the community in regards to politics. This includes local community gathering, becoming an activist in something I feel strong about, or even something as simple as voting. I now have the knowledge to carry on educated discussions among my peers and colleagues alike. The discussion boards were the most useful tool throughout this course. As mentioned previously, this has aided my ability to communicate effectively with others and share information with varying degrees of perspectives. Another important facet is relationship building, and this is important especially within the community of the politically engaged community.
