Purpose: To Verify the functionality of the Ag Leader 5.5 firmware and the NORAC
UC5 Update Package 1.1.5.6. To also verify that the two updates are compatible
with each other.
Test Dates: 8/8-8/12/2014
Test Durations:
Test time: 6
Total time: 24
Part Description: Auto Steer, Ag Leader Display interfaced with the Direct
Command, NORAC UC5 Height control system, NORAC Stand Alone Display
Test Description: This Test was to verify the functionality of the NORAC and Ag
Leader Updates. And, to verify that the updates are compatible with each other. To
complete this test, an up to date machine with auto steer capabilities, an Ag Leader
display capable of interfacing with Direct Command and NORAC, an up to date
NORAC Height Control System, about 300 gallons of water in the solution tank, and
spray nozzles on the middle 5 sections.
Note: All NORAC screens in the AgLeader will have the same screens and
locations in the Pulse
The Tests proceeded as follows.
NORAC UC5 Update package 1.1.5.6 Test through the Stand Alone Pulse
display;
Pre Update System Test:
1. Check the system for visible damage
a. Check to ensure that the foam pads are present in the bottom of the
height sensors and are clean.
i. If the foam pads are not present or dirty/worn, replace with a
new NORAC foam pad. (Pictures of good foam pads are in
Appendix A)
b. Remove Foam pads and check the transducer and o-ring for damage.
i. A transducer should have a gold color behind the silver grate
with no bumps, wrinkles, or tears. (Pictures of good transducers
and o-rings are in Appendix A)
Page 1

c. Check all NORAC Cables for visible damage

2. Install the Stand Alone NORAC Pulse display. Refer to the NORAC Installation
Manual for procedure. (Location of this procedure is given in Appendix A)
3. Check Functionality of the system. (If it does not run properly before the
update, it will not run properly after the update!)
a. Turn on the sprayer, unfold the booms over dry gravel or dry black dirt,
and level the booms. (If the ground has puddles or is muddy, the
system will not work properly!)
b. Turn on the NORAC System through the Pulse Display
c. Accept the Liability notice
d. Watch for any error messages on the Home Screen. (Pictures of the
Home Screen are provided in Appendix A)
i. If an error message does appear, refer to the NORAC Service
Manual for diagnostic process. (Location of this manual is given
in Appendix A)
e. Navigate to the main settings page.
i. Click the Wrench, then the Right Arrow until you get to a
screen with multiple pictorial options. (Picture of this screen is
provided in Appendix A)
f. Enter the Diagnostics Page by clicking on the Magnifying Glass
g. Enter the Sensor Page by clicking on the image that looks like a sensor.
(A box with three lines under it)
h. From here check the condition on the sensors by moving the center
boom section from the its lowest height till the sensors read 80
i. If the sensors give a continuous reading up to 80 the system
passes and is ready for testing.
Update the NORAC system through the Ag Leader Display Via a USB
1. With the machine, NORAC, and Ag Leader power off, Disconnect the Pulse
Display at the NORAC Control Module and Plug in the Ag Leader display. (See
Installation Manual for process)
2. Power on the machine and the Ag Leader Display. Accept the liability notices
to access the home screen.
3. From the Home Screen
a. Select the Wrench
b. Select the Display in the lower right hand corner
c. Select Advanced
d. Select View Firmware Version
e. Select Update Via USB
f. Select the NORAC update package
4. Wait for the update to finish.
NORAC Automatic Setup through the Pulse. This will require a tape measure.
1. With the machine, NORAC, and Ag Leader power off , Reconnect the Pulse
display at the Control Module
2. Power on the Machine and the NORAC System
3. Increase the engine RPMs to full
4. The NORAC will request that you run an automatic setup. Accept and follow
the on screen instructions to complete the setup
Page 2

a. Note: Take your time and be patient. If you are over punchy and hit
the proceed button too quickly, a step might get skipped and the setup
will need to be restarted.
5. After the setup, put the system into Automatic by selecting the A on the
Home Screen
a. The system should level out at a selected height
NORAC Firmware Test
1. Function Test through the Joystick
a. Inner Fold In & Out: Main Fold goes in and out
b. Outer Fold In & Out: Outer Fold goes in and out

2. Automatic Setup
a. Already completed above
3. Boom Height (soil mode): Test that the boom goes to the correct height with
machine both stationary and moving
a. 35 inches: Boom holds tips at 35 inches above the ground
i. The set height is changed on the page that comes on when the
Wrench is selected from the NORAC Home Screen
b. 50 inches: Boom holds tips at 50 inches above the ground
c. 65 inches: Boom holds tips at 65 inches above the ground
4. Headland Assist: Confirm that headland assist will trigger NORAC Mode
a. This is done by tapping the headland assist button once
i. If the NORAC is in Manual, this should put the system into
automatic

time how long it takes the boom to stabilize. Test at max engine RPM
and only if ambient air temp is above 50F. Take averages of 3 times.
Update the Ag Leader Via USB
1. Reconnect the Ag Leader at the NORAC Command Module
2. Proceed as before when updating the NORAC through the Ag Leader but
select the Ag Leader firmware update
Ag Leader Integra Direct Command Test
1. Verify Machine Configuration
a. Verify that the machine configuration was saved over the update or
complete a new configuration if one has not been done
i. Process for creating a new configuration is in Appendix A
2. Spray Water
a. Find an area to spray water and create a job. Spray using at least the
center 5 sections. Set a rate that is achievable with the top speed and
trip combination that the machine will spray and hold rate at multiple
different speeds.
3. Keypad Enable
a. Test that pressing ENABLE on the keypad will put the display into
automatic rate mode and turning ENABLE off takes it out
4. Keypad Rate +/a. Test that the +/- buttons will increase and decrease the target rate for
application.
5. Keypad Manual
a. Test that turning on and off MANUAL on the keypad puts the display in
and out of manual state. This can be verified by shutting all sections
off and turning on master spray. Then hit the +/- buttons and verify
that the boom pressure increases and decreases as expected
6. Spray on A/B Line
a. Set an A/B line and spray following that line. Periodically turn the
steering wheel to kickout Autosteer and use End Row Management
button to reengage it.
i. Double tapping the End Row Management button should
activate and deactivate the Autosteer
7. Section Keypad Test
a. While spraying, turn sections on and off manually. Verify that the
correct section is controlled and that the display mapping reflects the
response.
Page 4

8. Auto Swath Test

a. Turn on AutoSwath and attempt to spray over a section that has
already been covered. Verify that the sections turn on and off as
expected
NORAC Test through the VT (Integrea)
1. Repeat the NORAC Firmware Test Via the Integra
a. Run the automatic setup to ensure that the Integra will run the setup
despite having already done one through the Pulse
i. Go to the NORAC main settings page and select the Wrench
ii. Start the automatic setup by selecting the Wrench with two

Deviations:
While going over the NORAC System before the firmware test, a cable was found to
be faulty and was replaced. Also, three foam pads were added to three sensors
Observations:
None
Conclusion:
The AgLeader and NORAC Updated Firmware Functionality have been confirmed.
Their new firmware have also been confirmed to be compatible.
Sample Disposition:
The Updated firmware will remain in the machine until further notice. The
replacement cable was removed and the faulty cable was reinstalled for a later
teardown of the machine.
