I want you to use a Venn Diagram and to help you prepare your
thoughts so that you can write two paragraphs about the book that you
choose and Charlottes Web. I will walk around to everyone but you
will start by yourself and write the setting of both books and compare
them in the Venn Diagram. Does everyone remember how to use Venn
Diagram? Thats correct, you should write some main ideas about both
books in the big circle, then write similar facts in the middle. This will
help you prepare to compare and contrast the stories and the differences
in how they were written.

Targeted Students Modifications/Accommodations
I have two ESL students and I will work with them
separately to help them understand what it means
to compare and contrast. Instead of writing two
paragraphs, they can make two lists in order to
compare and contrast the two stories.
Materials/Technology: A copy of Charlottes Web for all students and one short novel for each student (can be
different), journal and pencil
