PERSONAL REFLECTION
What I learned about training from this experience.
I learned from this experience that content covered needs to be relevant to the clients involved.
In order for the client to be engaged their needs to be information that they see as beneficial or
interesting to them. The informational meetings I had also worked best when the clients could be
involved and included in discussions. Activities like the soda/candy consumed compared to the
vegetables/fruit were meaningful engaging experiences for the clients. The clients were asked to
write how many of each soda/candy and vegetables/fruit they consumed on that given day. The
numbers were added up and a ratio was determined. I think this was a good way to keep the
clients involved and inform them at the same time. There was also a better respect for myself
after I demonstrated proper knowledge to the clients over the semester. The clients were very
questioning of my beliefs and information presented at first. Once there was more respect
between myself and the clients the information presented was applied well and a better
understanding from the clients occurred.
What I learned about myself as a prospective health promotion specialist as a result of this
experience/work sample:
I learned through this experience as a health promotion specialist that assessment of the clients is
necessary in many regards. The survey conducted during the second week of meetings was a
great way for myself to plan out the future for information presented. With the information I
could get a better understanding of the clients and find out what interests them along with their
needs. Developing plans around the clients needs gained more respect from the clients. I also
learned that advocating for a cause I believe in can be a great rewarding experience. I was
allowed to help the community and be a positive role model for many young athletes. With the
experience I was given the opportunity to grow professionally and really demonstrate my
knowledge gained at UW-Platteville. I found the experience to be very rewarding and truly
believe I made a positive difference in the clients lives.
