______ How can Meditation/Mindfulness be used in the classroom to re-engage

students?

____________________________________________________________
Umbrella Question (upon which presentation lesson was based)
Today the students will be able to: Practice using meditation and
mindfulness in a variety of ways. Support/defend their decision to
incorporate meditation in the classroom as future teachers, in a
written assessment.

Measureable Lesson Objective (What you wanted the students to

learn)
Presentation Date__12/10/15_______________________

PLANNING and PREPARATION

Key components to any presentation or lesson
Equipment, materials, wardrobe selection, technology
1. What were the strengths you believe were present with regards
to your planning or preparation for this lesson? Explain WHY
you believe these elements were present?
I feel like my activities were effective and creative and the
students seemed to like them. I also think after I adjusted my
powerpoint, it was informative and helpful to my topic.

2. What do you believe was lacking, or what could be improved,

with respect to planning and preparation for your presentation?
Explain WHY.
I struggled with getting the technology to workI also changed
my presentation/added stuff last minute, so I was more nervous.

THE LESSON
Lessons are divided into segments and each part is very important in the
process of teaching and learning.
Lesson PlanWas your lesson objective measureable?
1. How was your objective written so that you would really know that
your class got what you were teaching?
Students practiced my topic by the activities and were assessed on the
topic to demonstrate if they supported meditation/defended why they
didnt.
2. How did you plan to measure the outcome of the lesson? (Was your
objective written correctly so that it mirrored your PLAN?)
I planned to measure the outcome of the lesson by having them
answer true or false questions about my presentation and open
response questions which displayed their opinion of my topic.
A. LessonIntroduction or Audience Engagement
Anticipatory Set what did you do in order to begin your lesson
to capture the attention and interest of the class?

1. Explain what you did and describe how it worked. I started by

getting everything set up because the activities all had a few
different materials and the desks were moved. Then I did my
powerpoint, after the students went to stations, and finally I
explained their homework.
2. Or: How might you have improved this portion of the lesson? I
think that the technology issues made me more nervous, but as my
presentation progressed I think it got better. I think I couldve added
in another video, and slowed down when I talked

B. BODY OF THE LESSON

1. List and describe what student learning experiences the lesson
contained that were successful.
The students enjoyed the activities and sitting on the floor rather
than in their desks. They learned in a variety of different ways by
my powerpoint and the stations. The video in my presentation was
comical and informative so that was a good factor.
2. How do you know they were successful? This is a good place to
reflect on the assessment the students completed the next day to
see if they actually understood the concepts. Look them over and
comment.

3.

4.
5.

6.

For the open response questions a majority of them wrote that as

future teachers they would want to incorporate
mindfulnesss/meditation into their lessons, and before my lesson
their answer mightve been I dont even know what those are!
There is always room for improvement, so: What could you have
done differently for a better outcome? I couldve improved on
preparing the technology, and adding a video or more information
to my powerpoint.
What teaching techniques did you employ? I did whole class
instruction, group work-in a variety of activities.
Describe (and explain why) any improvements you could make if
you were to deliver this lesson to another class. I would look over
my powerpoint and make adjustments farther in advance and
practice the technology.
Did it work? Did the students learn what you wanted them to learn?
If this answer was clear in previous items, say so. If not, EXPLAIN.
Yes, in their assessment I was happy to read that almost all of them
liked the activities and think they would want to use my topic as
future teachers!

C. BODY OF THE LESSONDescribe how you incorporated the following

into your lesson:
1. Visual-Watching a mind-in-a-jar video before they made them, and
my powerpoint
2. Auditory-Listening to my powerpoint, the music during the
presentation, My instructions for the lesson.
3. Kinesthetic-I did a station activity which had the students doing
yoga, coloring, constructing mind jars, and eating chocolate!

D. LESSON CLOSURE

1. What technique did you use to wrap up your lesson so that the
students might continue to think about what they had just learned
and experienced?
My closure for the lesson was explain their homework and asking
them a couple questions about their favorite activity.
2. Do you feel it was successful? I think that it wasnt as successful as I
planned because the students were still focusing on the activities
and wrapping that up.
3. What adjustments might you make if you were to present this
lesson to another class? I think that I couldve done an exit slip or
something to more formally wrap up the lesson.

Personal Assessment of Lesson

1. What grade do you believe you deserve for this project and
presentation? (This includes research, planning, preparation, team
work (if applicable) and lesson delivery, Not your Detailed Outline
or your annotated bibliography.)
Percent / Letter Grade__B______________
2. What percentage of the work accomplished for this presentation do
you feel you were responsible for if you were a team?
________B_________________________
3. If you were a team, one of the members might not have contributed
equally to the others. If this is true, how would you divide 100%
between the members?
________Give a higher grade to the people that worked
harder_________________________
With concrete support, state why you believe you deserve that grade.
I think I deserve a B because I put a lot of effort into researching activities
and ways that I could show the class that there are a lot of cool and
interesting ways to do meditation and mindfulness in your class. I wanted to
focus on that because I think brain breaks, and relaxation is something that
can really be beneficial for students. I dont think I deserve an A, because I
wasnt as prepared as I couldve been on getting the technology to work and
having a better closing.
