-Secondary Fields: makes a compelling case that the research will enhance
broader theoretical understanding across multiple social and behavioral
science fields about a topic having wide-range significance
-Emphasis is placed on support for research that involves researchers from
multiple SBE fields
-3 Principal Investigators with terminal degree
-Fits NSFs strategic goals:
Transform the frontiers of science and engineering
Stimulate innovation and address societal needs through research and
education
-Need to place special emphasis on the potential intellectual merit of their
activities
-If there will be multiple organizations that need funding, one must be the
primary
-5 year maximum research
