Dilbeck, Mike. What Really Is A Hero, Anyway? RESPONSE ABILITY.
RAProject. Web. 12/11/2015.
Heroism can be shown in many ways. While reading this article, Dilbeck
explained what a hero can be and some traits a hero might have. A hero can be a
male or female. A hero might do something that puts themselves in danger to keep
others out or away from danger. Dilbeck explains how a hero is someone who is
very distinct. Heroism isnt just someone doing something out of kindness but
better yet doing something out of their way to better someone else or humanity in
general. Dilbeck explains what a hero might be and what a hero can do for others
but also how I, myself can be a hero and what I can do in my everyday life to
become a hero or show an act of heroism.
Lickerman, Alex. What Makes A Hero? Psychology Today. 9/19/2010.
Web. 11/12/2015
Lickerman can see a true hero. A true act of heroism. As he states in this
article, you dont have to be a talented sports star to be a hero. He said he had
talked to a patient of his and his patient wasnt a hero for living with several serious
health problems but he is a hero for what he did. 15 years before he met his patient
his patient had given one of his kidneys away for a good cause. Sacrificing
something of his own for someone else. This goes to show that there are so few true
heroes. Who do you know that would sacrifice a kidney or any body part that is for
someone elses own good? I would for a family member but thats about it. Im not
being selfish either. Im sure most people you ask would say the same thing as me.

Kile, J. 5 Traits of a Hero Heroic Living. Moral Heroes. 12/1/2012. Web.
11/12/2015
Five traits to help better yourself in a situation of an act of heroism. Educating
yourself is one of the most important. Knowing whats around you and how to
handle the situation when the time comes can be an act of heroism in itself. Next is
having compassion. Loving others around you and caring is a good deed to society
these days. Not many people could stand up for someone else because it was the
right thing to do. Networking is another trait important in becoming a hero. Kile
writes rarely does a hero accomplish anything significant alone. This is very true
and important. Just like most comic book heroes have an accomplice such as Robin
and Batman. Networking and sharing ideas is important at being successful. Finding
inspiration and learning from others can also play a big part in heroism. Learning
from other heroes or heroic images can help yourself become better. Lastly is
preparing for sacrifice. Committing to helping others can sacrifice yourself. Giving
up something of your own to help someone else is probably the most important in
my opinion.

Three American men were on a vacation in Europe. While on the train ride, one of
them noted seeing a man with an assault rifle. They decided to confront him and
tackled him to the ground while trying to get the weapon away from the gunman.
He pulled out several other weapons in his defense but the three American men
beat him unconscious. When asked why these men did this they replied to

survive. This can be seen as an act of heroism. Three men take out a gunman to
save a lot of peoples lives.
Darcy, Oliver. The Selfless Act of Heroism Displayed by Teacher As

while at the Grand Theater in Lafayette. A 58 year old man opens fire at a theater
killing 3 victims and injuring many more. The governor gave a speech about the
incident saying that he thinks there will be many more stories of bravery and acts of
heroism in the next couple of days.
Coupe, Caroline. 10 Incredible Acts of Heroism by Ordinary People
Listverse. 12/4/14. Web. 11/17/15
These ten acts of heroism show that you dont have to wear a cape to save the day.
In these few stories, ordinary people like you and myself show acts of heroism in
many different ways. In the first story 2 teens Temar Boggs and Chris Garcia get
news that a fellow neighbors child went missing. Police had been searching for 45
minutes with no luck. The teens grabbed their bikes and went searching too. A few
minutes later they saw a suspicious driver and followed. After realizing the driver
couldnt find his way out of the neighborhood he let the girl out and she ran to the 2
teens. They returned her to the firemen and then to the parents. Later they were
recognized b,y the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. The 2 nd story
begins while a woman jogging suddenly gets attacked by a pit bull and her
offspring. A plumber who witnessed the incident came to help her. Both were

attacked and hurt from their injuries. The owners of the dogs had them put down.
Next there was a bus driver driving middle schoolers home who suddenly fell
unconscious at the wheel. A heroic action by a boy a few seats back who saw the
driver, ran to the wheel and steered them out of traffic and turned the bus off. The
driver went to the hospital and later passed away. Jeremy, the boy who took the
wheel, saved all the students on the bus. Another story was about a young college
student at Seattle Pacific University. After witnessing a gunman kill one and injure
another student, he ran and pepper sprayed the gunman and tackled him to the
ground. Many other students jumped on top and waited for police to arrive. 9 days
after the shooting Jon Meis graduated and had a scholarship announced in his honor
of his heroic act to save the lives of many students. The last story Id like to share
about this article is a story about a woman named Keenia Williams. Single mother,
Keenia, was driving her daughter to school when she looked in her rear view
mirroand saw an 18 wheeler truck had flipped and had caught on fire. She slammed
on her breaks avoiding two other cars from the collision and pulled over to the side
of the road. Running towards the fiery blaze was probably a bad idea but Williams
was determined to save the man in the truck. She pulled 52 year old Finerty from
the truck all the way back to her car. Williams was honored by the California
Highway Patrol for her heroic act and awarded the San Francisco Good Samaritan
award. Three years later Williams saved another life in an accident.
