Learning Activities: Introduction Activity/Initiating Procedures (focus, anticipatory
set):
The teacher will open the lesson by reviewing the Plan of the Day. After the Plan of
the Day has been discussed a self-made video will be viewed about a ride at Six Flags
the theme park. The video will last for about a minute and then the teacher will
explain what will be happening next in the lesson.
Procedures for the Lesson:
A. Information Giving:
The class will be separated into six groups (by table) with a specific flag at each.
The teacher will have a pre-made foldable, coloring utensils, and foldable cut-outs
already at their table.
Each of the six teachers will stand at one table and give information about a flag for
five minutes. A timer will be set at each table.
After the five minutes has passed, each group will rotate to the next table carrying
their foldable along with them.
The students will write all the information they learn at each table in their foldable
and glue down the corresponding flag, name of flag, and date of flag on the foldable.
The students will glue the finished foldable in their journal.
B. Modeling/Providing Examples:
One teacher will give a brief statement before the lesson begins to describe what the
class will be learning.
The teacher will show an example of a completed foldable for all students to see.
C. Checking for Understanding/Provisions for re-teaching:

The teacher will check for understanding by having each student answer questions
on the website Kahoot on the iPads.
D. Guided Practice:
The teacher will review the answers from the questions on the website Kahoot to get
students ready for the independent practice at the end of the lesson.
The teacher can ask questions at each table while they are making their foldable.
E. Independent Practice:
The independent practice will be the students creating their own flag and writing a
reflection explaining why they created their flag the way they did.
F. Closure/Culminating Procedure:
After the students have completed making their flag, as a group (table) they will take
a picture on the iPad and submit on Padlet. Students may explain to the class what
their flag is and what it means to them.
G. Evaluation of Students to determine if the objective was met:
The teacher will grade the questions asked on Kahoot to check for comprehension.
H. Enrichment/Extension:
An extension might be to ask students why they think Texas was chosen as the state
other countries wanted compared to the other states in the United States.
What makes Texas more appealing than other states?
