ThermoDynamics II Report December 2015

ThermoDynamics II
Report
Use EES software to solve the following:

A steam power plant operates on the ideal reheat Rankine cycle.

Steam enters the high-pressure turbine at 17 MPa and 500C. Steam is
then reheated at constant pressure to 500C before it expands to 10
kPa in the low-pressure turbine.
Determine the optimum reheat pressure satisfying the following:
1- The maximum thermal efficiency.
2- The maximum power.
Plot (PR vs th) and (PR vs power) curves

If the same cycle is designed with two reheating stages, determine

the optimum reheat pressures (PR1, PR2) satisfying the following:
1- The maximum thermal efficiency.
2- The maximum power.
Use parametric tables to show the effect of changing the two reheat
pressures on the power and efficiency of the cycle.

Report deadline:
Each student should deliver a hard copy of the report in the tutorial of
the week (12th to 17th of December
