Friendship Assignment Paragraph Workshop

Overview

Students will work individually and in groups to produce paragraphs

explaining 2 characteristics that make someone a good friend.

Objectives

After the lesson, students will be able to organize a paragraph in order to

make their posters and reasoning coherent and logical.
After the lesson, students will be able to connect his/her experiences
with friendships to character traits that many people possess.

Capitalization- Students are expected to build upon and continue

Have students open up their list of 6 character traits on
their Surfaces. Today they will be doing 2 of the traits they want in a
friend.
2)
Students will then write 2 paragraphs (one for each
characteristic) of about 4-5 sentences explaining what the trait is and
why it is important in a friend. They may use an online dictionary or
thesaurus to find words, but they cannot go online to find an
explanation of the trait. It must be written in their words. 15-20 mins

Once the students have finished their paragraphs, have
students work with their desk partners to proofread each others
paragraphs. Be sure to have students use the proofreading symbols
that are listed in OneNote. 15-20 mins

When that is finished, have students correct their work.
They can then begin searching for a picture or graphic to fit their
traits. Rest of class

If the two paragraphs are not corrected, it is not
necessarily homework, but if they do not do it they will be behind
and have more work to do closer to the due date of the project.
ELL students can work with Google Translate or another online service
to translate words they might be struggling with.
Students with IEPs can ask for help from the teacher or other
classmates.
