As students walk in the door, teacher sings happy birthday


in English (while wearing a b-day hat) to those whose bdays are near. (may have famous peoples picture shined
on the board)
Ask Why am I singing this song? Say: In Mexico they
sing something different.
Play the song (no lyrics) Can they understand any of the
words?

Pass out Cloze activity


After, compare the two songs whilst comparing the
cultural differences simultaneously

Teacher asks if students have a party for b-day / other


celebrations. In Mexico (and other Spanish-speaking
countries) they do too. How does one announce a party?
Discuss what info might be found on an invitation

Put students in groups of 3-4. At each group there will be


a party invitation(s)
There are comprehension check sheets for students to fill
out regarding each invitation
In 1-2 minute increments, students will change to the next
group to study the new invitation(s)
Students will fill-out / create own Spanish invitation
