Williamson Industries Inc. ‘Georgetown, Ontario / Edmonton, Alberta Installation & Welding of Plugging & Hot Tapping Fittings General Engineering Guide 1.0 Purpose ‘The purpose ofthis document isto provide general insructions forthe installation and welding TDW Full Circumference Fitings, Spherical Fitings, Welding Fitings, and 3-Way Tees, on CSA 2662 pipelines or ASME B31 & ‘ASME B31.3 pressure piping systems, within Cana, Fitings covered in these instructions include STOPPLE* tings; Hot-Tap Fitings; Reduced-Branch Split Tes; ‘SHORTSTOPP" 300D Fitings; SHORTSTOPP@ Welding Fittings, Spherical Fitngs and 3-WAY Tees", and TTHREAD-0- RING™ Fittings. 2.0 Description ‘TDW fitings are categorised according to use, pressure rating. or atachment lange ANSI class. Accessories provided with each fiting vary withthe ype of fiting. 2.1 Full Cireumferential Fittings > STOPPLE fitings, are avilable in SOram & 80mm (2" ‘& 3°) sizs threaded, or SOmin-900hnm (2"36") sizes, furnished with LOCK-O-RING" Flanges drilled, fced to match ANSI Class 150, 300 or 600, and canbe filly pressure rated or otherwise. Georgetown, Ontario / Edmonton, Alberta 2.2 Spherical Fittings Spherical fitings ae normally use afull- encirclement 3- ‘Way tes on as used for main relocations equipment tie-ins, side or bottom outlet connections, ine extensions, and for ‘making crossovers. However, they can also be sed a plain plugging Btings. ‘Normally Spherical 3-WAY Tees are supplied withthe Jongitudinal joint at 45°, which allows the outlet to be ceily reverse for side or botiom out connections. Figure 4, Spherical Fittings Reversed CAUTION: When installed withthe outlet a te botom, ‘iis not recommended that plugging-operations be performed. The mechanical force of the plugging ‘machine could damage the unsupported bottom of the pipe. Consult factory if plugging is required with this ype of instalation. All Spherical Fitings are also avilable, on special order, ith the option ofthe longitudinal weld joint being horizontal, in-line with the run pipe axis, fr bottom out ‘onnections only > The 300D Spherical 3-WAY Tee are available in Oma & 80mm (2" & 3" sizes threaded, and 100mm- 300mm (4-12) sizes with a Shoristopp 300D (ANSI (Clase 300 RFWN) Flange. However, the applied pressure rating depend onthe wall thickness and strength ofthe carer pipe. > THREAD-0-RING (TOR) Fitings ae available in 190 sizes: 50 mm (2"pipe) and 80 mm (3"pipe). These Fitings, consist of @ heavy wall nipple, completion plug, and cap. They are used during TDW STOPPLE® plugging operations as purge and equalisation fitings ‘They can also be installed during, new construction and used for blow-down connections on citer side of a block valve. They canbe used as vet connections at high points during line-ll operations, o can be used {or insertion of corrosion probes. 2-TOR STOR igure 11. THREAD-O-RING Weld Fitings Schematies For pipeline applications the SOmm TOR fiting bas a maximum operating pressure of 248 bar (3600 psig) ‘The 80mm TOR fiting pressure rating is 103 bar (1500 psig). When used on pressure piping systems both TOR sizes are registered to the fall ANSI 600 pressuretemperature ratings for temperatures up to 4455°C (850°F) for ASME B31.3 usage and slightly Tower for ASME B3I.1. Applied pressure ratings depend on the material and wall thickness of the carrer pipe, Williamson Industries Inc. Williamson Industries normally registers fittings for usage up to 343°C (650°F) or 455°C (850°F), depending on style and application, CAUTION: No alteration of an ASME B3t.1 or ASME £B31.3 pressure piping sytem is allowed. by CSA BSI, ‘without the prior agreement of the regulatory authorities.
