School Valentines Activities &
Dress in Red Day is on Wednesday,
February 10th.
Please watch for more information
about Valentines activities from
your childs teacher.

***IMPORTANT NOTICE***
Northern Lights Early Dismissal at
noon on Wednesday, February 10

Home reading for at least 15 to 20 minutes is a part of students required

daily work.

Students bring lunch to eat from

11:36 am to 11:59 am.

What does this mean for children? Regular reading at home and school
provides significant life-long benefits.

Students get ready to dismiss at 12

noon sharp.

Help your students reap these advantages by encouraging their love of

words and their love of books. Life can get hectic, even for our youngest
students, but helping them form a daily reading habit really can make a
huge difference for their success in school now and in the future.

Plan to pick up your children at

noon.
Buses leave shortly after noon to
take students home.

Be sure you support your childs daily at home reading.

Happy New Year!

School Cash Online Important Message

Northern Lights and Duclos School Cash Online system is available for the 2015-2016 school year. Hot lunch
orders starting in January 2016 will be done online only.
You can order online at https://nlsd.schoolcashonline.com/
Or you can go directly to this website by clicking the link for School Cash Online from our school website:
http://duclosschool.ca/
Signing up for your School Cash Online account is easy. You need your childs Alberta Student Number
(ASN). You can get this number by calling our school office, or find it located on the students progress report,
or ask your childs teacher.
New items will be added to the School Cash Online system as we go through the year: field trips, school
clothing, skiing, swimming, etc.
Please get signed up now and enjoy the convenience.
Call and speak to Elaine or Carmen for more information or to ask questions: 780-826-3992
Keep Our School Floors Clean
Please clean, wipe, bang, or remove your outdoor footwear before entering the school.
We have many high traffic times during the school day and the entrances get wet and dirty. This gets
tracked and spread around the school; into hallways and classrooms. Many students cannot walk to and
from the boot rooms because they get wet or dirty socks. We would really appreciate it if all school guests
would do everything possible to help. Please remove or clean your outdoor footwear, especially work boots
or oily and muddy footwear.
Thanks very much, we appreciate your help.
Alberta Education Accountability Pillar Survey
Dear Grade 4 Parents / Guardians,
As part of our focus on school effectiveness, Duclos School is participating in an online school survey for
Grade 4 students. The survey is called OurSCHOOL. These student surveys are part of the Alberta Education
Accountability Pillar providing an annual checkup on the education system.
Also, you should watch for more information about the grade 4 parent surveys coming soon.
OurSCHOOL is an online survey that allows students to give their feedback and share their voices on their
school environment, experiences at school, and school programs. During the next few weeks, grade 4
students will be given the opportunity and time to participate in this survey during regular school hours.
The student survey measures include such topics as emotional and social well-being, physical health, and
behaviours and attitudes linked to student success. The survey also allows students to give their thoughts and
feedback in open-ended question responses.
If you would like more information, please contact our Duclos School Coordinator, Jody Centazzo.

Happy New Year!

Duclos School is Accountable to our Students, Parents, and Community:

Students at Duclos are taught skills, attitudes and behaviours that will make them successful at
work when they finish school:
Field trips offer information about careers and life opportunities;
Guest speakers for classroom and school presentations and a range of curricular field trips
provide experiential learning and expose students to the world of work;
Education Week activities provide information to better prepare students for the world of
work;
School and classroom newsletters offer age appropriate life and career information;
Science and agriculture presentations are integrated in the social studies, math, and
science programs of study;
Grade 3 and 4 students participate in C-School;
As an elementary school we prepare students for the world of work through curricular and
extra-curricular opportunities and prepare them for later learning experiences in middle
and high school.
Strong literacy and numeracy skills prepare students for later learning and life-long
success;
Staff uses language to frame how parents and students respond to school events,
speakers, and activities to better prepare students for life-long learning and the world of
work;
Through our school communication plan we emphasize the successes of our school and
our students;
We communicate to parents that our students are taught attitudes and behaviours that
prepare them for life-long success.
