Activity 1: 1960s KWL charts

Ter Hand out KWL charts
Tell students to work with a partner to fill out the K and W section under three categories:
politics, culture, and events
Sts Fill out KWL chart
Teacher Ask students what they want to know
Write Questions on the board
Transition: Now that we have an understanding of what we know and what we want to know, lets turn our
chairs to face the back of the room.
Activity 2: 1960s video
Time 8:15-8:35
Ter Put on 2 youtube videos
Students Fill in the L of the KWL chart in the same three categories: culture, politics, and
events
Teacher Discuss what students have learned after watching the video
Students Discuss new information and big events that happened in the 1960s
Teacher Connect to story by reminding students that the 1960s were a very difficult and changing
time for Americans. Ask students what growing up in this time would be like. How would it be different than
today?
Students Answer questions on the bottom of KWL chart and discuss as a class
(Ter connects EU/EQ to SLO)
Students connect the story to the time period which it takes place.
Transition: That is in general what is happening in the 1960s, now we will talk specifically about our story.
