Welcome Back Everyone and Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful break but as a parent myselfit is definitely time to get
the kids back to school! Before moving on to second semester I want to share some data
with you on where each class is currently sitting in regards to being on track for graduation.
We have some serious challenges ahead but we are prepared to support all our students
toward achieving their diploma. Over the Winter Break we had students recovering credits
in our credit recovery labs and we also offered a science proficiency exam prep course for
seniors. I would like to thank Mr. Schott, Mr. Kuhles, Ms. Mangan and Mr. Ronan for all
their help supporting our students over break.
Here is a breakdown of our current stats. Though these stats currently show a downward
trendthis is not unusual this time of year. Our data changes rapidly throughout each
semester as students pass their HSPE exams and credits are attained. We definitely have a
mountain to climb this spring but Reno High School will continue to work as a team with our
families to support all of our students toward graduation. Please make sure you know the
current progress of your student(s) and if you need Infinite Campus Parent Portal Support,
please notify Mrs. Kim Borders in our main office. (775-333-5050 or
kborders@washoeschools.net.

CELEBRATIONS AND NEWS AROUND CAMPUS

We the People Win Regionals and head to State
competition in Vegas in February. This is the first
time Reno HS has taken the Regional competition,
beating Reed and Incline.
Senior Miranda Cross (and We the People
competitor) was 1 of 2 students selected
statewide to represent Nevada as a delegate to
the United States Senate Youth Program held in
Washington, D.C. March 5-12th, 2016. The District
of Columbia and the Department of Defense
Education system overseas are selected through
an extremely competitive merit-based selection
process held at the state departments of
education nationwide. Congratulations to
Miranda!

To stay in compliance with FERPA

regulations and to protect our students
we will be implementing a new
procedure. All natural parents must fill
out and sign a form, available in our
main office, allowing step-parents
and registered domestic partners to
pick up their students. The form is
good for the remainder of this school
year. A new form must be completed
each year.
