Have you ever woken up before because you were so hungry it hurt? Have you ever lived
in such poor community conditions that the local hospital runs out of basic medicines daily?
These are constant struggles for people living in poverty around the world. There are estimated
globally, 1.2 billion people living in poverty. These are people who have no jobs due to
economical depressions; they cant afford a house or clean water to stay warm and healthy
during the changing seasons, and their immune system is so weak that a simple cold could kill
them. There are an alarming number of people living like this on every continent and I have a
way to help.

In general, poverty is centered in a specific community or demographic area. Usually this

area is very dense with a low income population. With a high number of people living so close

together, diseases can spread quickly. A good

example of this is the Ebola outbreak in West
Africa beginning in 2014 an impoverished area
with limited medical technology, supplies and
access to clean water. At the peak of the outbreak, it
had spread across 5 continents invading 4 major
countries and killing over 3,800 people. Fortunately, the disease was contained, but what
happens when this occurs again? What happens if we cant contain it or find a cure? Panic,
disorder and complete chaos will ensue. This could potentially be avoided if we help out our
poor.
I believe that we should focus on reducing the number of poverty-stricken communities,
which will in turn reduce the spread of disease and improve the lives of the individuals living
there. First, each country would carry out a census conducted by UN officials to find out the
statistics of each country. These reports would include resources produced, consumed, imported,
exported etc. From there, there would be a conference between world leaders, where they discuss
pooling together the excesses resources of the world to help countries who need it most.
Countries with poor economical standings and high poverty populations will be at the top of
these lists. The most crucial part, after these plans have been made, will be the implementation
and the constant surveillance of these resources. In addition, all projects will be constantly
supervised by multiple officials to decrease any chance of corruption. The purposes of these
projects will not only be to decrease poverty in countries, but also to help the countrys economy
as well providing jobs in manufacturing, schools to train doctors and hospitals to help the sick.
All of these projects will aid countries in becoming a better place.

As with all policies and projects, problems and issues can be expected. Fortunately, we
can account for these in order to reduce the probability of them occurring and/or to minimize
their effects. One limitation is the amount of resources supplied compared to the amount of
resources required. Specific projects may require particular supplies; for example, hospitals
require particular equipment that can be difficult to fund and produce. To offset these shortages,
there will be maintenance of excess sustainable supplies. Another potential obstacle is
corruption. Humans can be selfish, greedy and self-serving. However, to counter this, there
would be a system of oversight by individuals from various nations, ensuring that no one nation
will profit from the projects, and decreasing the chances of corruption.

Implementation of this project would require individuals from many areas, including economists,
business professionals, construction experts, and others in similar fields. These individuals would
be recruited from around the globe, so as to not show favoritism and also to avoid creating
conflict. This team of professionals would create a plan for each individual problem and all input
would be considered before final preparations were made. There is a saying among carpenters,

measure twice and cut once. We need to make sure our plans are perfect that all numbers are
calculated correctly, and all potential obstacles are considered before the plan is executed.
Poverty is a large contributing factor to many human afflictions including disease,
starvation and high mortality rates. These issues can be reduced with the help of world leaders.
Poverty occurs on every continent and in every country. From these low income communities,
diseases are born and can spread, endangering life around the globe. By implementing my plan
and reducing poverty, our planet could become a better place with opportunity for longer and
better quality lives.
