Drones: Episode 29: Phoenix Catchers

Rala, Riuka, & Mrs. Hellen watched as the auditorium filled with all the academy
students. He waited until every single student was present. The doors slowly closed
as the dark ligers security team guarded the doors. It was this action that alerted
the students to the severity & importance of the assembly they were in store for.

Rala approached the microphone & tapped it. When he did there was a large
amount of feedback. He started fiddling with the microphone, to no avail.
Eventually, fed up with waiting, Nalla walked up on stage, where she nudged him
out of the way picked up the microphone & tossed it to the side. She then
materialized her own microphone, handing it to Rala, & went to go sit back down.
Her actions resulted in the entire student body giving her a standing ovation.

Thank-you for that, Nalla. Now it gives me great pleasure to make a few
announcements. First of all, I would like to congratulate our very own, Ripper Takaru
Todwell, on his recent defeat & purification of the dark drone Nightmare, which
resulted in the safe return of Konako Kota Hoto. Ms. Konako has also joined us as a
proud drone member, with one of the original drone spirits, Cynthia Dream. Rala
announced when suddenly Time appeared on stage. I feel it is my duty, Mr. Rala to
inform you that your statement is a bit off. Time objected.

This interruption caused the students to mutter between each other. W-What do
you mean it was off, Cameron Todwell? Rala asked. If Ms. Konako & her escort,
Willson will come up to the stage I will let them explain, as they know very well what
I am referring to. Time answered. Very well, Ms. Konako Hoto, & Willson Hiyomi
please come to the stage, if youd be so kind. Rala acknowledged with a pause as
the two came up on stage. Rala approached the two & offered them the
microphone. The two paused as they glanced at each other, unsure of which of the
two of them, should take the microphone.

Konako took a deep breath & accepted the mic. The two of them walked to the
center of the stage. Well We werent planning on announcing this to the whole
academy But Konako began, when suddenly there was an explosion at one of
the doors. Everyone turned to see what was happening. As the smoke cleared,
Kelphi was standing in the doorway. He walked in non-chilantly & grabbed a seat, as
if nothing had happened.

Everyone paused, unsure of what to do; even Rala & Riuka just stared at Kelphi.
Finally, Kelphi responded to all the stares. I fell asleep & the doors were locked so I
used a card to blow it open so what did I miss? He asked innocently. Riuka shook
his head. Just ignore it, he did that almost all the time back before our teams
combined. Psyker noted from beside Rala & Riuka, which startled Rala. When did
you get here? Riuka asked curiously. Around six point seven seconds before Kelphi
made a scrap metal pie out of those doors of yours. Psyker answered with an
emotionless face.

Can someone please fix the doors? Rala yelled. Ill handle it. Willson answered
as he motioned his hand towards the doors, which unbent themselves & then
levitated back into place. The screws also seemed to slide back in. I didnt know
you could do that! Rala exclaimed in surprise. Only with metal objects, Im afraid.
Willson admitted with a chuckle.

Anyways, as we were saying Not long ago Willson & I formed a marriage pact
which means Im not Ms. Konako anymore Now its Mrs. Konako. She admitted as
she & Willson rolled their collars down to reveal their chokers. Everyone stared in
surprise, before applauding enthusiastically. Konako blushed while Willson smiled.
He offered her his hand, which she accepted. He proceeded to guide her off the
stage. Embarrassed? He asked as they were walking back to her seat. A bit But
Im also a bit confused Why would they be happy for me even though I was the
one responsible for the death of Rauk-Shao? Konako asked. They dont even know
what killed Rauk-Shao. Only those with their own original drone partners know what
really happened, & besides, every time someone is joined in a marriage pact, it is
cause for celebration. Willson explained as they sat back down.

Well, that certainly was a surprise, but moving on to the main reason that this
assembly was arranged. As you all know, our leader Rauk-Shao was killed in a fight
against three dark drones. But recently, new information has been unearthed that
has pointed to a possible means with which to resurrect him. Though this way does
not come without danger; somewhere in the world, there exists a mythical creature
called a phoenix. These creatures have become incredibly hostile for reasons that
will be disclosed to a select few. Because of this, a small team has been selected
that will attempt to obtain one with which to fuse with Rauk-Shao, which will result
in his resurrection. Rala announced.

This new information caused everyone to talk amongst each other. So thats what
was so important that they needed to borrow Ruin for Ripp muttered. Now, I will
read the list of chosen participants that will make up this team that will be tasked

with securing a phoenix. If you hear your name called, please come up to the stage,
& stand behind me. Rala instructed, before clearing his throught.

Ruinous Argust who has been selected to lead the team, due to her expansive
knowledge of the creatures race & their habits, Hawk Kito who is Ruins mechanic,
Ripper Todwell whose transformation into Rift, will serve as the teams muscle, Nalla
Tonoma, who will act as Rifts translator, Suzuka Yama-Hiriko who will act as the
teams medic, Abra Abakan who will assist in tracking the Phoenix down, Vincent
Romalia who will assist in satisfying the groups appetites, Vivian-Shao who will
assist the group with overcoming any obstacles they may overcome if any, &
although not originally selected for the team, there was one last minute entry into
the team. Rala announced, which caused yet another ripple of murmurs.

Due to her only-recently revealed abilities & powers, it has become imperative that
Ms. Ashley Anna-bell, who has dominion over emotions, also be added to the team.
Rala announced. Ashley just stared in disbelief until Ripp, who was on his way to the
stage, guided her up by the hand to the stage along with him. The auditorium broke
into the loudest most insane applause theyd had yet.

Ashley hid her face because of her embarrassment. I cant handle this many
people looking at me She mumbled from behind Nalla, who smiled & gave her a
hug. Its alright; I was not very comfortable with it when I was younger, either.
She admitted.

The people standing behind me, are to be hailed, regardless of whether they
succeed or fail, as heroes, for they are about to place their lives on the line to give
life back to one of the most selfless people this academy has ever known! And with
that being said, I declare this assembly to be finished, you all may return to your
dorms & rooms. Due to the mission preparations, classes will be cancelled until the
team has returned. Rala announced, before turning around to face the group, while
the auditorium began clearing.

Well, Ruin, you have the team you asked for. We held up our end of the deal, I hope
you will make sure everyone returns safely at the very least. If you fail to bring a
Phoenix back, we can always try again, but if someone dies, there will have been no
point to this mission. Rala reminded her. Ruin nodded. Understood; failure is
optional if it will prevent casualties. Casualties are not an option. She responded
with a nod.

Rala & Riuka left the group as they, too, left the auditorium. It will be my job to
brief you all on what this mission will entail & what we are going to be up against.
We will meet at five Oclock PM. Until then, I suggest you all pack whatever you may
need or desire to take along with you on this trip, Make sure you are prepared
before tomorrow morning, for that is when we will be departing on the mission.
Ruin instructed before they all left the auditorium, going their own separate ways.

*** Location Change ***

Ripp walked through the halls alone when he heard a voice call to him from behind.
Where is Nalla? Its rare to see her unattached to your side these days The voice
noted in a sad tone. Ripp smiled slightly, hiding the sorrow he was feeling at that
moment. Its been a while since weve actually talked hasnt it Angel? Ripp
answered without turning around to face her.

Yeah I will be honest I miss the old days when we could talk about anything
openly without that awkward feeling Angel admitted as she joined Ripps side.
The two began walking together silently. Finally Ripp broke the silence. Do you hate
me for how things turned out? He asked melancholically.

I could never hate you. Weve been friends for too long for me to hate you. I wont
deny that I was sad at first & even hurt but things worked out better for both of
us in the end. Were still friends after all, right? Angel asked as she glanced up at
him with uncertain eyes. Of course we are, & we always will be! Ripp exclaimed
enthusiastically.

Even if things change, our friendship will always remain in-tact. You, Teller, & I will
always be the closest of friends; and not just the three of us, but Abra, & all the
others too. Ripp reassured her. Angel smiled as if her mind had been put at ease
finally. You look a lot more relaxed I take it that has been weighing heavily on
your mind, this whole time? Ripp asked. You can still read me so well Yes, it has;
ever since you joined the academy, its felt like leading our group has fallen onto my
shoulders & it hurts because it feels like youve grown distant from the rest of us.
And the others seem to feel the same to various degrees. Angel admitted with a
frown.

Ripp stopped her as he placed both hands on her shoulders & stared down into her
eyes. Angel blushed slightly as memories of before they broke up began flooding
her mind. I may not be as good of a leader as I used to be but I know you are
capable of taking my place. Never forget to believe in yourself, not just for yourself,

but for everyone who looks up to you. As long as you keep thinking positive, it will
be almost impossible for you to fail. Maintain good intentions & it will be next to
impossible to go wrong. I have faith in you, so make sure you have faith in yourself
as well. Ripp encouraged as he stared meaningfully into her eyes.

Angel teared up as she smiled & nodded. Thank you, Ripp She whispered before
breaking away from him & running off down the hall. Damn it, why cant I get him
out of my head?! I thought I was over him, but now it feels like Im back at square
one! She thought to herself as she hid her face with her arm as she dashed
towards her room as fast as she could.

Ripp just watched as she disappeared from sight. Angel He muttered

regretfully. He knew she was still suffering, & was trying to hide it, & it hurt
watching her go through it all without being able to do a thing. He closed his eyes &
tried to remember the last time he saw her smile genuinely, but couldnt. All he
could do was continue walking towards his & Nallas room.

*** Location Change ***

Hawk entered the room with Ruin following. He closed the door behind them & sat
down. Alright, you know what to do. He remarked with a smile as he glanced over
at her. Ruin nodded bashfully as she exited her battle suit & sat down on the table.
She then laid flat on the table as the plugs slowly latched into their sockets.

By the way I cant help but wonder did you really have me assigned to the
team just so I could perform maintenance on you, or was there another reason?
Hawk asked as Beak-Crow landed on his shoulder.

Ruin blushed & fidgeted nervously. You saw right through it, didnt you? Ruin
asked as she stared up at the ceiling. Well, yeah. I cant perform your maintenance
without the proper equipment, which will be too heavy for us to take along on this
quest, something that was obvious that even you must have been aware of, so I
knew you had an ulterior motive to having me come along. Hawk explained as he
watched the screen while Beak-Crow monitored her, feeding the images into the
same monitor that Hawk was looking at now, allowing him to monitor both her
maintenance & her personally at the same time.

Well Since I was recreated My systems have become so advanced that they are
nearly identical to that of a female humans body So I talked with Janelle &

well it turns out I am compatible with male humans now So I was thinking we
could Ruin trailed off as her face turned bright red. Hawk continued staring at the
screen silently.

Go on we could what? He asked, already aware of what she was trying to ask.
Do I really haft to? She asked as she glanced over at Beak-Crow, proving to
him that she knew what hed been doing from the start. If you want it, you will haft
to ask for it. He answered as he glanced up at her. Ruins face turned even redder
as she closed her eyes.

I-I want to Umm, well what I mean to say is Uhhh What Im trying to say is
Id like to Ruin remarked, so flustered that she couldnt speak clearly. Hawk let
out a sigh. You wish to have sexual intercourse with me? He asked as he opened
his eyes & glanced up at the monitor. Ruin stared down at her feet with
embarrassment & shame as she nodded. So basically you had me put on this
team, so I could be your boy-toy? He asked as he glanced back up at her.

Ruin looked over with shock & was about to object when she realized that he was
right. She fell silent & closed her mouth & eyes. She nodded, even more
embarrassed & ashamed then before. Ill give you points for cleverness. Though, if
you wanted to have sex, you should have just asked in the first place. Now I feel as
if Im just going to be dead weight. Hawk admitted as he continued analyzing the
screen.

Thats not true! You also have the marionette ability, which will also be invaluable
as well! Ruin argued. Though it wont be necessary since you already stated
yourself that the only reason I was placed on the team was so that you could play
with my body to your hearts content. Hawk pointed out, which silenced Ruin.

Ill come, but dont lie & try to tell me you had a legitimate reason, when you
didnt. He warned as the plugs slowly retracted from her body. Your maintenance
is done, if you want to enjoy yourself a bit before we go, we can head back to the
bedroom, just make sure that you make some time to get things packed. He
offered. Ruin smiled with a beat red face & nodded enthusiastically. Alright, then
lets go He remarked as he led her out of the room by her hand, leaving her
battle suit in the room.

*** Location Change ***

Nalla & Vivi were spread out on the roof top as they stared up into the blue sky. So
how are you holding up? Nalla asked after an hour of silence. Vivi was so absorbed
in her own thoughts that she didnt seem to hear Nalla. Nalla clapped her hands by
Vivi, which snapped her out of her daze. What? Did you say something? Vivi asked
as she glanced over at her.

Yeah, how are you feeling, being selected to go hunt down a burning chicken in
order to bring your brother back from the dead? Nalla asked with a giggle, until she
noticed that Vivi was frowning. You want him back, dont you? Nalla asked as
she turned her gaze back towards the sky. ...Of course I do. He was the only family
I had left now I have none Vivi answered back as she began crying. Nalla
nudged closer & held Vivis hand.

Vivi cried harder, which prompted Nalla to pull Vivi into her arms. Vivi buried her
head against Nalla & balled her eyes out. Nalla simply stroked the back of Vivis
head as she consoled her. Youre never alone so long as we are here Nalla
exclaimed calmly & quietly.

*** Location Change ***

Ashley sat in an aquarium room alone watching the fish swim, with her spirit by her
side. Hey Rosie? Do you think any of these fish saw mamma & papa drown those
few years ago? Ashley asked as she whipped the tears from her eyes. Thats a
rather dark question to ask What makes you think that? Her spirit asked as he
turned to face her.

When I see the water or the fish, it makes me think of how I was floating adrift for
three whole days & nights How our plane crashed & how they didnt even make it
out It makes me think what my life would be like if our plane hadnt crashed I
mean, why did I haft to be the only one who made it out alive? Ashley asked as she
began sobbing. Her spirit didnt know what to say to cheer her up.

Even though I almost died I was rescued by smugglers, who planned to sell me
as a slave if I hadnt found you I would probably be someplace else right now
or worse Ashley recounted. You shouldnt think like that, its a bad mind set to
have, considering you are going on a dangerous mission soon. A voice called out
from the darkness.

WHOS THERE?! Ashley yelled as she swirled around with a start. Riin walked out
of the shadows calmly. I never knew you had such a past Riin admitted as she
sat down beside Ashley, & watched the fishes with her.

I was only six when it happened. The smugglers treated me like I was an
animal but I found my crystal just before they were going to ship me to someone
overseas. With Roses help, I manipulated them into letting me go. But from there, I
didnt know what to do or where to go. I didnt know how to get home, & even if I
did, who would be there to help raise me? My whole family had perished at the
bottom of the ocean in the airplane Ashley admitted as she cried while watching
the fish intently.

Why do you hold all of it in, & refuse to tell anyone? Can you really endure all of it
alone? Riin asked quietly. WHO ELSE DO I HAVE TO HELP ME ENDURE IT?!
EVERYONE HERE IS NOTHING MORE THAN SOMEONE I JUST MET! I LOST ALL THE
PEOPLE I TRUSTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA THREE YEARS AGO! Ashley yelled
angrily through her tears.

Wait a minute Three years ago? You said it happened when you were six! Riin
pointed out. Yeah, so what? Ashley huffed as she crossed her arms & glanced
away. If that were true Then that would make you only nine years old! Riin
exclaimed in disbelief. So Im nine years old, big deal! Ashley exclaimed, while
avoiding eye contact. Riin fell silent. To lose as much as you have at such a young
age & bear the burden of a drone Im sorry Riin apologized as she put her
hand on Ashleys. Ashley pulled her hand away. You know, you should be happy
that you at least had parents who loved you My parents committed suicide after
learning that some boys from my school had posted nude pictures of me, because
they were ashamed that I was a girl & not a boy Riin admitted.

Ashley looked up at Riin & saw her staring distantly at the fish, with empty eyes.
Your parents didnt love you? Ashley asked as she began to tear up. Riin closed
her eyes, frowned & shook her head. No, they didnt They slit their throats while I
was down the hall in my bedroom I found out a little just before they killed
themselves It was the worst night of my life. I quit school, & ran away, throwing
my old life & my old name away. I want to burn all traces that remain of that life
but no matter what, it will haunt me for the rest of my life Riin admitted as she
wrapped her arms around herself & sobbed.

I think I finally understand what you meant when you said you all are suffering just
as bad as I am Ashley admitted as she hugged Riin. The two cried together while

giving each other a hug. Both their spirits watched quietly as the two bonded with
each other in the aquarium.

*** Location Change ***

Abra curled up on top of her bed as usual when she heard a knock at her door. Her
head popped up as her tail waved around in the air. Her ears twitched as she
listened for any clue to let her know who was at the door, when the person behind
the door called through to her. Stop listening for my breathing patterns & open the
door, Abra. Teller exclaimed. Abra leapt off her bed & galloped to the door. She
opened it & jumped onto Teller, knocking him off his feet, & landing on top of him.
She nuzzled him with her cheek while her tail waved around erratically.

Alright, alright, I get it, youre glad to see me! Come on, now, let me get back up!
He exclaimed with a laugh as he tried to push her off. Eventually Abra relented &
hopped off of him. She galloped back into her room & sat on all four on her bed as
her tail waved back & forth, her eyes fixed on him. Teller got back up & entered her
room, closing the door behind him. He looked all around her room & noticed on the
wall to his left, a picture hanging on the wall; it was the only picture she had
hanging. Teller approached it & froze as he realized what the picture was. His mind
went back in time as he reminisced about it.

*** Location Change ***

A young Abra & Teller were sitting in their chairs at separate tables when their
kindergarten teacher entered the room. All the kids left their seats & flocked around
her as they greeted her, except for Teller, who was staring out the window blissfully
at the sky. Abra glanced over as she snacked on a cookie. Teller, if you dont come
quickly, there wont be any cookies left. The teacher informed him. Im not
hungry He answered back, without even glancing towards the teacher.

The teacher smiled sympathetically as she returned to handing out snacks to the
other children. Whats wrong? Dont you like cookies? Abra asked as she pulled
her chair over to Tellers table. Its not that Im just not hungry right now Teller
answered as he continued to stare out at the sky. What are you looking at? Abra
asked curiously.

Im watching that birdy there, feeding its babies He answered as he pointed to a

birds nest in a tree outside the window. Abra stared in wonder at the birds. Wow

Thats so sweet She sighed as she watched with him. As the day passed by, the
two kept watching the birds until the teacher came over. Teller, Abra, it will be nap
time in a few minutes, you both should find a good spot to sleep. She informed
them before walking back towards the others.

Would you mind if I slept with you? Abra asked as she glanced over. Well
Okay Teller responded as he shrugged. Abra smiled & threw her arms in the air.
Hooray! She cheered as she got up & ran over to get a blanket for the two of
them. Teller got up & walked over slowly. Within minutes the two had snuggled up
amongst a large group of kids who were group together in pairs & trios. The teacher
was about to turn off the light when she noticed Teller & Abra.

Looks like hes finally made a friend And his parents were worried that having
just moved here would be a problem for him She whispered as she took out a
camera & took a picture of the two of them. With that, she snatched the photo out
of the camera, & turned out the lights; quietly closing the door to the nap room
behind her.

*** Location Change ***

Teller smiled as he stared at the picture of his head nuzzled against Abras head
with the two of them already having been fast asleep. Back then we had no idea
wed end up like we are now Teller exclaimed as he put his hand on the pictures
frame as a single tear rolled down his cheek. We became such fast friends Im
not surprised we made such a good pair Nor do I regret falling in love with you
She admitted while blushing.

Even after all that has happened? He asked as he glanced over. Mhm,
especially with all that has happened! I fought with my all to rescue you from
yourself, because I really did love you. Abra admitted as she closed her eyes.
Even though you may be a dark drone, & I, a light drone; my feelings havent
changed from before. I still love you. Abra admitted.

I cant help but feel guilty I didnt treat you very well the day that I lost myself
Teller admitted as he hung his head shamefully. But thats just it; you werent
yourself. You were under the influence of that silly gemstone! Abra argued. But I
accepted it, even though I knew those two couldnt be trusted I gave in to my
weakness & it caused you the most pain of all He pointed out.

Do I look like Im in pain still? She asked with a grin. Teller laughed. No No, you
dont Teller responded. Abra shifted her legs, & suddenly Teller noticed that she
wasnt wearing any underwear. His face went scarlet. Why so red? Were you
looking somewhere you shouldnt have? She asked with a smirk on her face. Uh,
n-no, not at all Anyways, I should be going now, sorry to bother you! He
exclaimed, obviously flustered. Before he could take even two steps, however, he
found himself pinned on the ground with his arms behind his back.

Nice try, I know where you were looking, so dont try & pretend like you didnt see.
Now, what to do with you? Hmmmm A dirty boy like you must be dealt with
accordingly. She exclaimed in a heavily suggestive tone. You could always let me
go? He suggested. Hehehe maybe in a few hours, I might. But since Ill be gone
tomorrow, Ive decided I might as well have fun now, while I still can; & there is no
one Id rather have fun with than the one I love most! Abra explained as she
dragged him back towards her bed.

*** Location Change ***

Suzuka walked into the Academys space dome as the stars danced on the walls
wildly. She sat down on her bed which rose out of the middle. She sighed as she got
undressed & lay down, pressing a button on a remote that locked the door. The only
three that knew that Suzukas room was actually the space dome was Rauk-Shao,
Rala, & Riuka, but now only two knew her secret. She had asked to make her room
in the space dome because it was the only place she could fall asleep.

She was so used to looking at the stars before falling asleep that she could no
longer sleep without looking at them. As she pulled the blankets up over her, she
watched the stars twinkle. You know, I wouldnt think you were the star-gazing
type. A voice admitted from inside the dome. Suzuka sat up with a start as she
covered herself with a quilt.

Slowly a mask formed amongst the stars. I do apologize for the breach of your
privacy, but I wasnt expecting anyone to interrupt my own star gazing Kelphi
admitted as the rest of him slowly materialized bit by bit. Get out. Suzuka
exclaimed flatly. Well thats not polite at all. This is a public room belonging to the
academy, you cant just tell me to get out Kelphi argued. This is actually my
room, so yes, I can. Now get out, before I call Riuka. Suzuka growled. Fine, be that
way. I guess Ill go tell Psyker that my star-gazing was cut short because someone
couldnt wait to fall asleep in her own bed. Kelphi exclaimed.

Are you threatening me?! She asked in a high pitch voice. Threatening is such
a light-word I prefer to think of it as blackmail. You let me continue stargazing, &
Ill keep my mask shut. He answered calmly. Suzuka turned red in the face with
anger. Senbonzakuras Judgment! Judgment: Innocent! Suzuka yelled as her
flower petals formed. Before she could do anything however, Kelphi materialized a
deck of playing cards. He then launched them one by one at her in rapid succession,
embedding each one into the blanket around her as well as in all the flower petals
she summoned.

Gambit Berserk He uttered as he snapped his fingers, causing all of his playing
cards to detonate, blowing up all the flower petals, as well as the blanket that was
covering Suzuka. Suzuka was about to yell at him, when Kelphi placed his hand over
her mouth. This is not a battle Im willing to give up. Just let me star gaze & all will
be fine. He whispered into her ear. Suzuka bit Kelphis hand causing him to jerk
away. FAT CHANCE, TOOLBOX! She yelled as she elbowed him in the gut. As he
leaned forward from the blow, Suzuka grabbed him, & pulled him forward over her
shoulder & onto the bed.

As she was about to punch him, Kelphi drew a card out of his sleeve which
detonated almost immediately, causing a flash that temporarily blinded Suzuka.
Kelphi reached up & pulled Suzukas down & kissed her on the lips. Suzuka thrashed
violently & pulled away from Kelphi. She materialized a blade in her hand & tried to
stab Kelphi.

As the blade pierced his chest, Kelphi exploded into a bunch of cards & reappeared
all around the room. Suzuka stared at all the clones of Kelphi. Im a Toolbox, huh?
You know, that isnt a half-bad nickname considering all the tricks I have up my
sleeve. But I digress what will it take for you to let me continue star-gazing?
Kelphi asked urgently. You are the first Ive ever met that is so determined to
stargaze. Why are you so adamant yourself? Suzuka asked as she materialized a
flower kimono over herself.

Kelphi fell silent as he hesitated to answer Suzukas question. If you want to

stargaze so badly, then tell me. Otherwise, get out of here this instant. She stated
clearly. Kelphi let out a sigh as he glanced up at her. I made a vow to someone long
ago That vow is the only thing I have left from before I even became an oni
Kelphi admitted.

Wait BECAME AN ONI?! YOU MEAN YOU WERENT ORIGINALLY AN ONI?! Suzuka
gasped. Kelphi tried to quiet her down. Yes I wasnt always an oni. Its a long
story but suffice to say Ive been an oni for a little over one-hundred years. Most of

the friends I once had are either dead, or have forgotten me, but one in particular
Never stopped searching for me Kelphi admitted as he closed his eyes. What
kind of vow did you make? Suzuka asked innocently. I dont want to talk about
it. Kelphi answered agitatedly as he turned away from her & crossed his arms.

Please? Suzuka asked pleadingly. Kelphi turned back around & was about to yell
when Suzuka caught Kelphi offguard; Suzuka planted her lips against Kelphis &
kissed him on the lips. Slowly she opened her eyes. Please? She whispered
softly as she drew away from him. Alright, fine You win Kelphi relented as he
let Suzuka pull him back down to the center of the observatory, where her bed was.

The two of them lay down on Suzukas bed & stared up at the sky simulation.
When I was still human, I was around seventeen years old. I had a thing for masks;
something that the other students at my school loved to make fun of me for.
Despite all the bullying, though, I always seemed to maintain a cool disposition as
they phrased it. That always seemed to piss them off more & more, but it also
attracted the attention of a sweet-hearted girl. Her name was Lilac & she was
always by my side when I was feeling down. Kelphi recanted.

One day, she finally managed to talk me into letting her come over to my place.
Thats when she discovered my thing for masks; but instead of being freaked out by
it It only made her fall for me even more Ill be honest; I never understood why
she was never freaked out by it Kelphi admitted. Maybe because she loved you
for whom you were to the point that she didnt mind it? Suzuka reasoned.

Anyways We eventually started going out, & on our one-year anniversary, we

decided to make each other masks. I was surprised by the idea since she was the
one whod come up with it. But we modeled for each other & began working on our
designs. We put our all into our masks, & presented them to each other at the
stroke of midnight on the night of our anniversary. It was on that night that we
made the vow: as long as we remember each other & hold the masks we made for
each other, we would always lie down & stare at the stars through them until we
could no longer stay awake. Kelphi finished.

So does that mean that tonight is the night of your anniversary? Suzuka asked.
That and the anniversary of the day she passed away I will never forget her,
nor will I ever break my promise to her. Kelphi answered softly. So if you came
here to fulfill your vow, where is the mask she made for you? Suzuka inquired
curiously. Im wearing it now Im always wearing it I cant even take it off
Kelphi answered as he pointed to his face. Oh, I see She replied awkwardly.

So how did it get merged with your face if you dont mind me asking? Suzuka
probed. Well That is a rather hard question to answer, seeing as I wasnt
conscious when it happened. Kelphi admitted. What do you mean you werent
conscious? Suzuka exclaimed in surprise.

Well, I wasnt awake when it merged with me. I woke up one morning & found that
it had fused with me while Id been asleep. Kelphi explained. Do you think it was
accidental? Suzuka inquired curiously. No. The mask had not been made
abnormally. Until the morning I found it fused with me; it had just been another
ordinary mask. I have long suspected that someone or something had been
responsible for merging this mask with me, though I never could figure out why
someone would do such a thing. Kelphi reasoned.

Suzuka frowned as she glanced up into the domes vast space hologram. It hurts...
Doesnt it? Losing someone you love... I mean... Suzuka whispered, which
prompted a glance from Kelphi. Kelphi slowly returned his gaze to the same night
sky & gave a nod. Have you lost someone close to you, before? Kelphi asked as he
closed his eyes.

Yeah... Ripp vanished for a long time when we were young... He was the closest
thing I had to a brother so it really hurt when he went missing. I remember I looked
everywhere for him, & cried my eyes out when we couldnt find him. I thought Id
never see him again... So yeah, I know what its like to lose someone close to you...
Suzuka answered as she held Kelphis hand. The two of them watched the stars
silently until they fell asleep together.

*** Location Change ***

Vincent stood in a large kitchen where a few other members were assisting him with
the cooking for the academys dinner, when Janelle entered through the large
swinging doors. What are you all making? I could smell it from my laboratory. She
noted as the doors swung shut behind her.

We are making Mambo-Gumbo; a healthy mix of celery, tomatoes, onions, yellow

peppers, carrots, & mushrooms, with a bit of lemon juice & some crushed garlic all
mixed into one of my own specially-made beef stew recipes which also contains
some bacon flavouring. Would you like to help? Vincent inquired as he stirred the
stew.

Well Im not really good at cooking Im more suited to experiments & genetic
observations. Janelle answered as she fidgeted. But mademoiselle Janelle, you & I,
we are not so different. You are familiar with chemistry, yes? Vincent asked with a
hearty smile. Yes, I am why do you ask? She Janelle asked with a puzzled look
on her face.

Because cooking & chemistry are virtually the same; you follow a recipe or process
until you end up with a desired result. Vincent explained as he motioned with his
hand, prompting a book to whiz into her hands.

If you can handle chemical equations, reading a recipe should be no problem. Give
it a try, well make tonights dinner together. He exclaimed. Uh Flour & eggs?
Janelle began. All I will actually need you to do is describe to me what the food in
the picture looks like. I can handle the rest that way. Vincent explained calmly.

What about the recipe? Arent we going to use it? Janelle asked as she glanced
from the book to him. Recipes? For me, I dont necessarily need them; I can cook
things without even needing to know the recipe. Vincent explained.

Uh alright ummm a vegetarian pizza with pineapple, mushrooms, &

pepperoni Spaghetti with a white sauce hot dogs Sushi with cucumber,
artificial crab meat, & Avocado Strawberries Meat loaf Grapes Macaroni &
cheese Shepards pie Vegetarian Lasagna with mushroom, zucchini, peppers,
tomatoes & a vanilla cake with lots of sprinkles Janelle read as she flipped
through the book. When she looked up, sitting on the counter was all of the foods
exactly as they had looked in the book.

How on earth did you do that? Janelle exclaimed in astonishment. I have power
over food, or more specifically the matter its made of specifically. I can also force
the air itself through special processes that end with the creation of food. All I haft
to do is manipulate the atoms & molecules do a bit of rearranging something that
is not that much different from what you do. The difference between us is you
manipulate living matter, while I manipulate inanimate matter. Vincent answered
as he formed a ball of dough above the palm of his hand which he held up to
demonstrate his abilities.

youre more than just an ex-cook arent you? Janelle asked as she narrowed
her gaze. Vincent let out a sigh as the dough suddenly transformed into a large
sword, which he whirled before catching the blade between his fingers. He then
flipped it & caught it in his hand again & began inspecting the blade. Im surprised.

You are the first academy member to figure it out Even among our own group, few
know. Vincent replied as he glanced up at her with one eye like a chameleon.

You arent actually human are you? Janelle asked as her eyes seemed to focus
on his eye. Only if you perceive me as human... Vincent answered as he
transformed into Janelle before her eyes, a cheeky smile plastered over his face. A
shape-shifter? She exclaimed in disbelief. Once again, right on the first guess
You truly are extraordinary He responded as his skin turned to batter of an
unknown type, his face vanishing entirely.

This is my true form He admitted as his arm transformed into the blade while
more orbs of dough formed around him. Were you ever human to start with?
Janelle asked as she stepped towards him, her curiosity aroused by his new form.
No I was created by the real Vincent who actually died in the explosion that
resulted in my creation Somehow his memories ended up inside me. Since he died
in my creation I decided to take on his identity & live on not as him, but for
him He answered.

I would love to study your biological & chemical make-up more in my laboratory
Janelle admitted as she glanced up at where his eyes should have been. I cant
leave just yet. Dinner isnt ready yet, but if you wait, I should be done in a few
minutes. He answered as he pointed at the counter with his human hand.

Alright, Ill wait for you outside! Janelle exclaimed as she walked out. Ten minutes
later, Vincent emerged from the kitchen, back in his regular form. Alright lead the
way I hope you dont mind if I remain in this form while there are others about I
dont want the fact that Im not human getting out. Vincent exclaimed. It doesnt
make a difference to me at the moment. When we run into a conflict however We
will see how it goes. I make no promises that somebody wont find out, but I guess I
can try my best to keep it a secret. She answered as she began walking down the
hall, with Vincent following.

When they arrived at the Genetics department, Janelle led him to the door at the
very end of the hall. On the door was a sign that read Janelles bedroom on it. I
thought you wanted to examine my genetic and chemical make-up. He exclaimed
in surprise. Janelle glanced back at him with a serious face. It is my own personal
laboratory as well as my bedroom. She answered as she opened the door using her
hand which she inserted a hole beside the door.

Beyond the door was a short corridor that opened up a few feet in. In the wide open
space was a bed which had a computer beside it which was connected to various
devices in the room, such as a charging table like the one that Ruin uses, a genetic
modification capsule, & a restraining chair, all of which had cables protruding from
them all.

Pick one & we will get started. She instructed as the door closed behind them &
locked seven times over. Why are there so many safety protocols built into this
room? Vincent asked curiously as he glanced behind them.

Because not all of my specimens are willing participants; this is where the most
dangerous specimens are also researched. She explained as she kicked her black
leather boots off & crawled onto the bed where she sat in front of the computer
which flashed to life as she approached it.

I have a different idea Vincent remarked as he returned to his real form & took
two clumps out of his body which he then tossed onto the ground. The two clumps
rapidly expanded & transformed into clones of him. The three Vincents then
entered all three devices. The capsule closed on the first clone & filled with liquid as
the cables began attaching themselves to it. The second clones body was locked
into the chair by mechanized strap-plates.

The real Vincent sat on the table & plugged the cables into his dough-like body &
lied down. So who are the others that know about your origins? Janelle asked as
she began typing wildly on the keyboard, her eyes wildly scanning the data that
streamed across the screen rapidly. Psyker, Cameron, Violet, & Ruin, though all of
them except Psyker found out by accident. Vincent answered.

This data! Its incredible! Both of your clones seem to have the same mind
waves yet are independent How are you able to keep them from becoming
separate personas? Janelle asked in astonishment.

I take pieces of my mind & implant it in them; it doesnt affect me since I can
regenerate everything that I have so long as one particle of my body remains. In
short, I can replicate endlessly if I want. Vincent explained as he took another glob
& lobbed it onto the floor, spawning another clone which then walked over to Janelle
& came up behind her.

Suddenly turrets activated & aimed at Vincent, but Janelle pushed a large red
button on the wall beside her which de-activated the turret. He wrapped his doughlike arms around her chest, which changed texture from dough to flesh. So, want
some help with some of your research? Vincent asked quietly as he kissed her
neck; slowly removing her lab coat. Janelle blushed as she closed her eyes, her
pulse quickening. She knew this had been coming from the moment they entered
her room.

Her breathing became heavy. Ive never done this before you know She
whispered as she glanced down embarrassedly. Ill be gentle He whispered soft
& lovingly. Janelle reached over & pressed a single button which dimmed the screen
as the two of them laid down horizontally.

*** Location Charge ***

Ripp & Nalla awoke early & got dressed without a word. They left their room & the
Ligers dormitory. They met in the mission room which was empty except for Ruin &
Hawk who took notice of their presence almost immediately. Morning did you two
rest well? Ruin asked as she got to her feet. Yeah, how about you two? Ripp
asked as he sat down opposite from them. Ruin blushed as she stuttered. We.
slept f-f-f-f-fine She answered.

The group paused awkwardly for a minute when the silence was broken by the
arrival of Abra & Suzuka. Suzuka yawned & slumped down in the seat, still half
asleep. Morning, Meow! Abra greeted them as she perched herself on the arm rest
of the sofa. Morning Hawk responded with a warm smile. We are almost ready
to head out, just waiting on Ashley, Vivi, & Vincent Ruin remarked as her scouter
slid out from the side of her headphone & over her eye.

Vivi & Ashley, Im not too surprised at, its Vincent who has me surprised; he is
normally the first one to every meeting Psyker noted as he & Cameron entered
the room. What brings you two here? Ruin asked with surprise as her scouter slid
back into her headphone. We bring a warning. Cameron tells me that this trip could
end up costing you another life in exchange for Rauk-Shaos. Omni-ominous is no
longer the one pulling the strings; rather its his strings that are now being pulled.
Psyker warned in an ominous voice.

Ripps eyes widened as the words left Psykers mouth. He glanced over at Psyker &
Cameron who both glanced at him as he did. Is there a chance that we wont lose
anyone? Ripp asked as he approached the two. Yes, though the chances are low.

There are many possible outcomes time could take & very few of them involve a
death-free outcome. Cameron replied. What are the odds? Ripp asked.

Zero point three percent. Psyker replied, his answer followed by a long silence.
Remember, it may be a small number, but thats all it is; a number. Vincents
voice announced from the doorway to the academys lower levels.

Dont let the numbers discourage you; we came here to accomplish a mission. We
have accepted these kinds of risks before, so how is it any different from now? We
know there will be tough foes, we know it wont be easy, & we know that there is a
chance we wont survive. Rauk-Shao knew that too So as someone who died
believing it was a worth-while sacrifice, Im willing to sacrifice my own life to help
him now that we have a chance. Even if you all dont come with me, Ill go find it
alone if I have to! Vincent exclaimed as he joined them, his determination burning
even in his glance.

Who said we wouldnt? The more the risk, the more excitement, I say! Vivi
agreed as she & Ashley also entered the room. Then its decided. Our goal will not
change. We all are ready to give our lives for this if we haft to. Ripp exclaimed as
everyone nodded in agreement. Its time to bring Rauk-Shao home. Ruin what is
the closest location you can pin-point the phoenixs location down to? Ripp asked
curiously.

Well they are attracted to volcanic areas so we should probably start with Hawaii;
Ive heard there has been a lot of volcanic activity there. Ruin speculated as she
once more slipped her scouter out over her eye. Ripp nodded, transformed into Rift,
& opened a portal. Then lets get this mission under-way. He announced as they
walked through with renewed confidence, unaware of just how grave the stakes of
their mission truly were.
