-Authors structure stories around significant themes.
-Effective stories have a structure, purpose and sequence of events (plot) that help to
make the authors intention clear.

Learning Outcomes for Written Language: READING LITERATURE
By the end of Grade 5, students are expected to:

Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.
Compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or drama, drawing on
specific details in the text (e.g. how characters interact).
Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative language
such as metaphors and similes.
Explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a
particular story, drama, or poem.
Describe how a narrators or speakers point of view influences how events are described.
Compare and contrast stories in the same genre.
By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, (short
chapter books?) independently and proficiently.
Read a wide range of texts confidently, independently and with understanding.

Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard Romanian grammar and usage when writing or
speaking.
o Recognize types of nouns in a sentence and be able to tell the gender, number and case;
o Recognize the adjective in a sentence;
o Recognize the verb and be able to tell the different tenses and modes they have;
o Identify the personal and reflexive pronouns in the sentences
o Be able to identify the different parts of speech in the ortograme.

Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard Romanian capitalization, punctuation, and


spelling when writing.
o -Use punctuation to separate items in a series.

-Use a comma to separate an introductory element from the rest of the sentence.

The aim of commercial media is to influence and persuade viewers.

Individuals respond differently to visual texts, according to their previous experiences,

Knowing about the techniques used in visual texts helps us to interpret presentations
and create our own visual effects.
Synthesizing information from visual texts is dependent upon personal interpretation
and leads to new understanding.
