I am writing this letter as a character reference for Naomi Masuda. I was her classroom and
clinical instructor during the second semester, Health and Illness I, of the Associate Degree
Nursing Program at Kapiolani Community College. Naomi was very motivated and disciplined
individual. She was employed during her nursing courses and maintained a course grade of 87%.
She was always well prepared with a research based plan of care for weekly assignments.
Her plan of care was accurate and appropriate to the individual needs of the patient.
She was inquisitive and caring. She had the ability to perceive changes in her patients baseline
assessment. She was able to interpret changes and quickly report pertinent information to the
Primary Nurse. Naomi demonstrated the ability to provide safe, quality care. She demonstrated
good clinical decision making and critical thinking skills. She was always responsible to confirm
nursing interventions with the Primary Medical Surgical nurse and the Clinical instructor if she
was undecided or confused about matters of patient care or data information.
Naomi developed and improved her skills in subjective and objective patient assessments. She
demonstrated independent learning and she was a knowledge seeker. She was able to incorporate
patient teaching in her daily care. She was receptive to corrections and suggestions with very a
positive attitude. She implemented positive changes as suggested.

Naomi was timely on a consistent basis. She proved to be a diligent worker and she understood
the necessity of collaborative care. She was familiar with the program policies and procedures.
She was respectful of authority and team player among her peers. She was a very reliable and
trustworthy individual. It was my pleasure to have been her clinical instructor.
