Unit Statement: The student will describe the differences between vector and bitmap
images and the advantages of using each. He/she will learn how to identify and create
vector images using the basic principles of graphic design. As a final project, his/her
artwork may be used for publications such as yearbooks, school newsletters, and
announcements.
Essential Outcomes: (assessed for mastery)
1. The Student Will create shape lines and fills using the basic shape tools (i.e.,
circles, rectangles, stars).
2. TSW create lines and fills using the pen and fill bucket tools.
3. TSW use gradient fills in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
4. TSW adjust existing lines and fills to change color and thickness.
5. TSW use symbols to produce multiple copies of an image (e.g., a flower garden)
with little cost to RAM.
6. TSW use effects to adjust the appearance of shapes (i.e., drop shadows).
7. TSW use appropriate text and convert text to outlines.
8. TSW develop a large, final project that includes a full range of skills wherein the
student can demonstrate mastery of all the skills learned.
9. TSW will research and discuss how vector images can be used in an increasingly
changing digital world.

1. Student contributes artwork to a yearbook or other publication.
2. Student develops an announcement for an upcoming event.
3. Student creates a business card for real or imagined use.
4. Student creates an advertisement for a real or imagined company.
5. Student develops a logo for a company - e.g., food service, book / Internet
publishers, furniture store, board game makers, etc.
