Introduction
International Symposia on the Contributions of Psychology to Peace bring together about
40 invited participants from around the world. This biennial meeting is conducted under the
auspices of the Committee for the Psychological Study of Peace, of the International Union of
Psychological Science. It enables scholars to present their current research in peace psychology;
engage in intercultural dialogue aimed at reducing culture bias and ethnocentrism in research and
practice in peace psychology; bring forward voices from cultures and situations that are typically
not included in peace discourses; and, build an international community that promotes peacerelated research/action.
Symposium Format
The main theme for the 2001 Conference will be the Changing Terrain of Peace
Psychology in the International Arena. Participants are expected to present a 10 to 15 minute
paper on peace psychology, with emphasis on psychology and/or human processes. Your
presentation may be related to any empirical/theoretical work or action project, in which you are
involved.
The symposium will be a combination of paper presentations and dialogue sessions
among participants. Another major component of the symposium will be visits to various
Philippine universities, government and non-government offices. In order to optimize your
