Numerical analyses of slabs are performed by using finite element analysis software ANSYS.

The mortar has been modeled using Solid 65 element which is a 3-D structural reinforced
concrete solid element. This element is capable of cracking in tension and crushing in
compression. The important aspect of this element is the treatment of nonlinear material
properties. The wire meshes inside the slabs were modeled separately using Link8, a 3-D spar
element which is a uni-axial tension-compression element defined by two nodes with three
translational degrees of freedom at each node. To model the steel plates at supports and at point
of application of load and epoxy layer, Solid 45, a 3-D structural solid element is used.
SOLID46, is a layered solid element, has been used to model the GFRP sheets.
