Infosys Technologies - Interview Experience

Venipriya J.
(venipriya_j@yahoo.co.in)

Before moving to the specifics, thought I should mention this:

Students were shortlisted based on CGPA (>2.99) and

interviews were conducted

My Background: Electrical & Electronics Engineer, Fresher

All questions were from my resume. Prepare your resume with

care and know what you have written in it.

My interview lasted for 22 minutes. There were two panellists

Mr. X & Mr. Y. Mr. Y kept shooting questions in between some sort of a stress interview.

The questions asked are as follows:

1) Mr. X: Quickly, tell me about yourself.
Name, education, background (Was not allowed to complete.
You can talk about extra-curricular activities, other
achievements, anything relevant to the profile being offered,
like some event you organised for event management profile
or a team that you led to highlight your leadership skills.)
2) Mr. Y: How can you say you are good at studies? (I had said so
for the previous question)
Mr. X answered that for me. (Resume speaks volumes about
you. Prepare it with care.)
3) Mr. X: So, your specialisation is Finance & Operations. Why
have you chosen those?
Said that it had struck a chord. (Better answer, I feel, would
have been to say something about how you can relate to that
specialisation, the connection between your UG/work ex with
the specialisation.)
4) You have not taken any subject in Systems. Why are you
here?
I told them that I felt that as an Associate Consultant, I would
be some sort of a liaison between the client and the people
who code. I was frank and said that I had done some coding
in Engineering but dont remember any of it and that the
profile offered was a general one.

Mr. X was kind enough to explain the profile in detail (almost

5mins) and asked if I would prefer such a job.
5) Mr. Y: What did you do in Zilla Panchayat (SRP)?
I was not prepared for this question. I got away by telling
something. (Please DO NOT make this mistake. If you include
something in your resume, make sure you know everything
about it.)
6) Mr. X: What did you do at Feedback Business Consulting?
Thats were I had done my SIP. Explained it. A few more
questions were asked. They were basically trying to make me
talk. I was giving 2-3 line answers (Again a mistake).
7) Mr. Y: Which of these two do you think is more relevant?
I clarified if it was with respect to learning. Answered that it
was SIP as the duration was more, blah blah.
8) Mr. X: Why 3.34 and not 3.5 (CGPA)?
Before I could answer the next question was asked.
9) Mr. X: What are your favourite subjects?
Rattled a few. No questions were asked from any of these
subjects. End of actual interview. (Choose your answer for
such questions with care. Every possibility you will be
questioned on those subjects.)
10)

Mr. X: Do you have any questions for us?

Said I had many. But I asked just one- I have not taken the
course on ERP. Im not sure if I fit in.
I take the liberty to quote Mr. X, as I believe it would motivate
my friends who are freshers. He said, We are looking for
learnability. We know that freshers will NOT come with IT
experience. WE are ready to train you. Are YOU willing to
learn?.
Please be prepared to ask a few questions if not something
that is path-breaking atleast something about the work
environment, the job itself, something from the ppt, etc.
Another mistake I did was completing the sentence for the
interviewer. DONT DO THIS.
Well Despite all the above mistakes if I have got the job, I
believe it was because of my confidence, communication skills
and openness. Remember, the interviewers time is precious
and they havent come all the way here to REJECT anyone.

Hope that this was useful.

All the best!!!
