"The Power Of The Internet" - a compelling, creative video

demonstrating power of the internet and making a case for

the continued "freedom" of the internet.
Wanting to highlight the mainly positive aspects of an
increasingly online culture.
Not glossing over risks and pitfalls of the internet either.
Aiming to inspire, educate and encourage people to support
a connected, clear and transparent means of communication
like the internet.
To be styled on existing viral videos with powerful messages
told in an interesting and aesthetically pleasing way.

Ideas Considered
Trend setting - modern behaviour, styles, language is
heavily influenced by the internet.
Starting movements and social action - Occupy, Arab
Spring etc.
Iconic imagery and the speed at which one image can
spread virally (Syrian migrant boy drowned photo).
Celebrity and pop culture - pros and cons.
Freedom of information, including Wikileaks, Edward
Snowden etc.
Risks of isolation, disconnection from reality, nature,
each other.

Ideas Considered
New power paradigms - ordinary people have
higher degrees of control.
Spreading of once unheard/unseen news - racial
justice, feminism.
Exposing propaganda in mainstream media.
Educational resource - learning is becoming more
democratised.
Problem solving - solutions and forums for asking
questions to problems that once didn't exist.

We asked our class focus group of 14 people their

opinions on the best out of our proposed ideas.
Feedback was that the following were our most
interesting topics:
Starting movements
Freedom of information
New power paradigms
Spreading of once unheard/unseen news

Exposing propaganda in mainstream media

Target Audience
Aimed at young adults.
Already a technically advanced generation who are
largely reliant on the internet.
16-25, formative years of adulthood.
People making decisions on their futures, career
paths, responsibilities, social and moral
compasses.

We intend to use a combination of online collaborative working tools

and meetings in person to map out our project, provide visual
representation of the completion status of tasks and to brainstorm
ideas. The online tools we will use are:

Evernote
GoConqr
Google Docs
Facebook (direct private messaging and group messaging when cast
and crew are decided)

The resource which will provide the most practical value will be
Evernoteas this allows for the assignment of tasks to specific
individuals in the work group. It also has a checklist/reminder function
allowing tasks to easily be checked off and seen by all when

In the planning stage of the project, our group will meet weekly
on Mondays (during or after class) to review the
completed/incomplete tasks, assign new work and set deadlines
in line with the project brief.
Whenpractical work on the project commences, we will meet at
least twice per week for reviews as above, but will also have
daily communication via our online collaboration tools and work
separately on our own tasks.
When cast and crew are involved, they will be added to our
online work groups and scripts, storyboards, aims and objectives
will be sent to keep everyone on the same page.

The main risks we have identified so far are:

Legal - copyright, use of music/video content owned by
third parties. We have established that a fair use policy
for educational purposes exists and as no money will be
made from our project (and given that it will be
submitted privately to the examiner), copyright issues
will not be an significant risk to the project.
Location and studio filming - health and safety risk
assessment forms will be completed for each new
environment we will be filming in.

Missing footage/work (data) - to mitigate the risk of data

being lost or corrupted, regular backups of work will be
made. The following online file storage sites with shared
folders will be used:

Dropbox
Google Drive
OneDrive

Physical copies of work will be created where possible too

i.e print outs and data stored on external hard drives or
memory pens. All footage and audio will be slated
beforehand it is captured and logged on the day it is

Before each meeting in person and when taking part in

practical work, the group will refresh itself with the overall
aims and objectives laid out in our concept section. When
discussing new ideas or creating tasks, we will sense-check
and make sure we are linking everything we do to the bigger
picture in line with our overallobjectives. Quotas and targets
set will be SMART:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Time bound

further focus group, source cast and crew, location
scout and book equipment/studio.

Our work will be continually evaluated by colleagues,

tutors, focus groups and through online surveys.
We will discuss feedback at our weekly/bi-weekly/daily
meetings and make decisions on amending, altering
or removing parts of the project based on peer review.
