Candidate: Jennifer Schneidewind

Date: February 4, 2016

Content Area: Mathematics

Grade Level:
Kindergarten

Subject Matter: Numbers

Lesson Content Description:
Students will be working the numbers 1115. They will be identifying each number in
the order it occurs and gluing it onto a
number line.
Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:
Students will review the teen songs that they have previous
learned for each number 11-15.
The students will be given a sheet of paper that has the five
numbers written on hearts randomly laid out.
The students will be asked to point to each number, one at a
time as it occurs. When all the students are pointing the number
asked by the teacher, they will sing the song that is associated
with that number, cut it out, and glue it onto a number line. This
will repeat for all the numbers.
Once all the numbers are glued onto a number line in numerical
order, the students will color them.
When the number lines are finished, the students will recite the
numbers on their number line in the correct order for the teacher.
Common Core Standard:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.2
Count forward beginning from a given number within the known
sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).

ELD Standard:
EMERGING PRODUCTIVE
9. Presenting: Plan and deliver very brief oral presentations (e.g., show
and tell, describing a picture).
Common Core Lesson Objective:
The students will be able to identify the numbers 11-15 and put them
in the correct numerical order.
Assessment:
Formative:
Students will sing songs that are associated with each number to
help them remember them.
Students will be asked to point to a number asked and put onto a
number line.
Summative:
Students will be asked to count from 11-15 in the correct order.
Students will have a completed number line with the numbers
11-15.
Lesson/Assessment Modifications:
ELL:
The students will sing the songs to each number that are meant
to help them remember the number.
The teacher will scaffold the appropriate academic language.
Students are working in small groups.
Teacher is giving the directions one at a time.
Special Needs (ADHD):
The students will sing the songs to each number that are meant
to help them remember the number.
The teacher will scaffold the appropriate academic language.
Students are working in small groups.
Teacher is giving the directions one at a time.
Technology: Describe the types of technology you will be
utilizing in your lesson to create and enhance instruction. (If no
technology is used, please explain why.)
CD player and the CD with the number songs
LESSON PREVIEW PRIOR TO TEACHING
Prior knowledge required for this lesson/objective success
Counting in numerical order from 11-15
Review sub-skills required for this lesson/objective
Knowing the number songs to help them remember each
number.

LESSON PRESENTATION
INTO:
Step-by-Step Anticipatory Set/Orientation
Separate class into two groups and tell them what they are going
to be doing at each table. (An instructional aid is working with
half the class on another assignment.)
Welcome students to the table.
State the objective: Today we are going to be practicing our
numbers 11-15.
Play teen number songs for activating prior knowledge.
Technology used to create and enhance the introduction to
this lesson:
CD player and CD with the teen number songs
EL &Special Needs Adaptations:
Students are in a small group setting.
Students are already familiar with the teen number songs, so
reviewing them is extra practice.
The songs give the students an auditory and visual
representation (when they use their fingers to show the number
as they sing the song.)
THROUGH:
Step-by-Step Modeling/Presentation of the Objective
Start into the activity. Students will be given a paper with the
numbers 11-15 written on hearts on a piece of paper. Teacher will
model pointing to each number and saying what the number is.
The teacher will ask the students to find each number, as they do
they will cut the number out and paste it onto a number line.
Teacher will ask the students to find the number 11: Everyone
point to the number 11 with your finger. Great job! Lets sing the
song. Now lets cut it out and glue it at the beginning of our
number line!
Teacher will ask the students to find number 12: Everyone point
to the number 12 with your finger. Great job! Lets sing the song.
Now lets cut it out and glue it next to the 11 on our number line!
Teacher will ask students to find number 13: Everyone point to
the number 13 with your finger. Great job! Lets sing the song.
Now lets cut it out and glue it next to the 12 on our number line!
Teacher will ask students to find number 14: Everyone point to
the number 14 with your finger. Great job! Lets sing the song.
Now lets cut it out and glue it next to the 13 on our number line!
Teacher will ask students to find number 15: Everyone point to
the number 15 with your finger. Great job! Lets sing the song.
Now lets cut it out and glue it next to the 14 on our number line!
EL: Special Needs Adaptations:
Teacher is giving instructions one at a time to help students

stay on task and focused.

The students are singing the song for each number again to
further solidify the number sequence into their brains.
Students are working with one number at a time.

Checking for Understanding/Formative Assessment of Each

Students Performance/Closure of Instruction
Waiting for all students to have their finger on the correct
number.
Hearing the students sing the song for each number.
Seeing the students glue the number in the correct place on the
number line.
BEYOND
Independent Practice/Summative Assessment of Each
Students Performance
Once the students have glued all the numbers down on the
number line they can color them.
Final Closure of Lesson: Closure question to reinforce
instruction learned
Students will be asked to count from 11-15 using their number
line.
EL: Special Needs Adaptations:
Teacher works with the students throughout the entire lesson. If
the student is unable to remember the numbers as they count,
the teacher will remind them of the song for the number to help
them remember what the number is.
