Education 468: Classroom Management Plan

Classroom Procedures and Routines:

-

Teacher welcomes each student at the door with a hug at the start of the day
Students leave the room to recess by lining up by the door until they are
dismissed
Students typically do not move around the room freely. Students that are at
stations will be told when the time is up which way to rotate and how
(walking quietly)
Passing out and collecting papers:
o Homework- dropped off in a bin by the door prior to the start of class
o Completed work- turned into cubby to be sent home, or collected by
teacher for assessment
o Extra work- placed in cubby and sent home in a folder on Fridays
Supplies: Each work station has the proper supplies necessary to complete
the task. There are always sharp pencils, erasers, and scissors on the desks
available for all students at all times
Drinking fountain/restroom/pencil sharpening are all tasks expected to be
accomplished during recess time. Students ask the teacher to do any of
these things during lesson instruction time.
Dismissal/greeting: Students are greeted each morning at the door and
dismissed each afternoon the same way. Students are called one at a time
when dismissed to ensure that students are going home with the appropriate
guardian.
Roll taking is done first thing in the morning. Student need to get a late pass
if they enter the room after the bell has already rung.

Classroom Physical Environment:

-

Furniture is arranged in a small group setting. There are groups formed with
6 desks pushed together. There is an ABC carpet that students (Mostly
Kinder) use during instruction. There is a small kitchen area to be used
during free choice time. The room is very colorful and inviting.
Bulletin Boards- This room is perfectly set up for both Kinder and First Grade
students. The alphabet is clearly posted as well as the numbers for students
to easily access if need be. The room is bright, colorful, and fun. Students
art work is displayed on walls along with posters for birthdays and lost teeth.
Students work is posted for all to see. The work changes from theme to
theme coinciding with the months/seasons/study topics. Currently there are
snowmen and penguins on the walls.

Teaching Practices:
-

Routines are well established with both K and 1st grade. All students know
the expectations on how to enter the classroom and how to behave within
the classroom. Lesson expectations are also thoroughly presented prior to
the start of each lesson.
Motivational phrases/Positive Reinforcements- The master teacher is
constantly praising students for good work and good behavior. She points
students out to make a good example of them, which allows for students who
may be having a rough day gently remind them how they should be
behaving. Positive reinforcements such as rewards in the form of warm
fuzzies are also a great tactic to help students stay on task.
Response control/expectations
o Whole class- class, class yes, yes

o Individual- raise hand
