Designer Research : Diane Von Furstenberg

In this designer research essay I will be discussing about my favorite

fashion designer who is Dianne. I will be talking about her biography,
discussion, and her personal life and lastly, how she started her own
company and highlight major points of her life, and recognitions. In this
short essay I would emphasize why I chose her and why she important to
me. She has a tasteful fashion style which can be sexy and effortless. She
has created history already by creating the wrap dress that can be ready to
go for a career woman or any women would make her feel confident in her
own skin. In fact, she is also known for her unique, she plays with the
fabric pattern and also brighten colors like neon pink, orange, blue, yellow,
green. My favorite quote from her is I didnt know what I wanted to do,
but I always knew the woman I wanted to be. by Diane von Furstenberg,
her quotes are very powerful and inspiring for young designers like myself
who are starting their career in the fashion world that is quite scary but with
a mindset you can make it to the world. With that being said to her worked
ethic, creativity she still continues to expand to international. She is already
is the woman she wanted to be not just a typical girl, who has a plain life,
but instead has a pretty successful life and is her own boss.

She was born on December 31, 1946, in Brussels, Belgium to Jewish parents.
Her Parents Leon and Liliane Nahmias Halfin provided their daughter with a wellsituated childhood. Her dad is Romanian and Greek born, Jewish mother who
was a Holocaust survivor in 1946. Diane moved to Brussels, Belgium at the age
18 .Then she attended Madrid University, later she transfer to the University of
Geneva in Switzerland chose economics as major. When she was in
Switzerland she met her first husband, Prince Egon zu Frstenberg, the
German elder son of Prince Tassulo zu Frstenberg. Later they fall in love, then
they got married in 1969, moved to New York, due to he was Prince he had a
high profile society life. They also had two children, a son, named Alexandre von
Frstenberg, and Tatiana von Frstenberg, after three years they got divorced in
1972. With the assistance of friend and entrepreneur Richard Conrad, and with a
$30,000 loan from her father.
Diane was smart enough that she by opening her won studio . She
designed her own prints, and made easy to wear dresses of silk, cotton and
polyester knits. Her success started in 1970 with jersey dresses. By the four
years later, she invented the wrap dress, which stands for power and
independence for every woman. Her success still continues her sold concluded
over a million of dresses and was attributed on the top of Newsweek.
In 1997, Dianne launched her master dress, by starting her corporation as a
global luxury lifestyle brand that has gone till today. The DVF company has
expanded to a collection of shoes, handbags, scarves, accessories and jewelry.
The line has sold more than 55 countries, including 132 DVF owned and

partnered stores staring from North and South America, Europe, the Middle East
and Asia Pacific.The wrap dress turns a success and in 1974, she launched a
cosmetic line and her first fragrance, in the honor of her daughter Tatiana. The
fragrance went pretty well, but in some by 1983, she closed her cosmetics and
fragrance business.
Because her individuality she gained many followers and her sophisticated looks
kept her in the public eye. She later published a memoir, The Woman I Wanted
to Be. In her memoir is focus on her personal journey through life. For
example childhood insecurities, lessons from her mother, love affairs, beauty,
aging, four decades in the fashion businessThe Woman I Wanted to Be
concentrates on every detailed of Dianes life, and is sure to inspire and
empower every reader with the lessons she has learned along the way.

In conclusion her clothes have been worn by many celebrities like Michelle
Obama, Jennifer Lopez,Catherine, Duchess of Cambrifidge, Gwyneth Paltrow,
Kate Beckinsale, Madonna, Tina Brown, Jessica Alba and Susan Sarand. On the
other hand, models like Kendall Jenner, irinia Shayk and Gigi Hadid had walked
her fashion shows for DVF. She still continues to grow as a fashion designer and
expand her brand. Hopefully we will see Diane in the future in Latin American
with her company.
