Design Your Own Stamp!

When you mail a letter or package, you need to have a stamp on it because the stamp
means that you paid. Every country has its own stamps. Design stamps to represent PBS and
Palestine.

Discussion
1. Make a list of the things that Stanley might need on his trip to California.
2. What are synonyms for fragile and valuable? What other things are valuable and
fragile?
3. Mrs. Lambchop gets nervous when Stanley goes to America because he has never
been away from home alone before. How would this make you feel? Describe some
times when you were away from home without your parents. How did you feel? How
did your parents feel?
4. Would you want to be flat? It seems like a great thing! Do you think there are any bad
parts to being flat?
5. What do you think Stanley did in California? What did he see? How did he deal with
being flat and being in a different state?
Plot Rollercoaster
Remember that every story has a plot. Flat Stanley is full of little stories, and they each have
a plot. Think about the story of his moms ring and the story of going to California. Describe
the parts of the plot rollercoaster for each story: background, rising action, climax, falling
action, and resolution.

Short Paragraph
After Stanley becomes flat, his parents put him in an envelope and send him to California. If you
could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why? What would you do there? Make sure you
have a topic and conclusion sentence and 3 details.
