What Is There

To Find?

Golden eagles
have been seen
in the area.

The Birds

Bamberger

Ranch Preserve is
special in many ways! One of the ways is its
biodiversity that has grown over the years.
Biodiversity is important because it means
that there is a wide variety of life.
See what you can spot during your
journey at Bamberger. A
few endangered species
can be seen, including
the
scimitar-horned
oryx.
Along
with
different birds and
trees, there are also

insects!

Be a Surveyor!
Selah is from Psalms and was used
at the end of a verse. The word means to
stop or to pause. When you are out at
Bamberger Ranch Preserve, take a moment
to stop and to pause frequently. If you have
binoculars or a camera, make sure to use
them! What can you find?

The Trees

Birds are considered

an indicator species. This
means we are able to get an
idea of a lands condition by
what kind and how many
birds are on the property.
Around 30 years ago,
there was a survey done of
the birds that were living at
Bamberger. There were only
less than 50 species of birds
in the area. After working
hard to expand habitats for
birds, there are now over 200 bird species!
A former
endangered
species, the
bald eagle,
can be found
at
Bamberger.

There are two endangered bird species

that call this place home!
Golden-cheeked
Black-capped
Warbler
Vireo

We know that trees can be good for

the
environment.
However,
when
Bamberger Ranch Preserve was purchased, it
was overcrowded with cedar trees and did
not have any water. Since clearing out some
space for other vegetation, the land has
significantly improved. Today, there are
scenic grasslands, countless springs and
other
trees
on
the
ranch.

Other trees at Bamberger:

Mexican plum - Blanco crabapple

Live Oak
Texas Snowbell*
Texas Redwood
* Endangered Species

The staff at Bamberger Ranch has

accomplished prescribed burnings, planted
native plants and improved its grasslands.
Still there is a lot of work to be done for the
ranch and its animals to be around for a
very long time.
