AimsWeb Results Analysis

I assessed students using the MAZE test during the Fall and Winter benchmarks. All three classes
had data very different from each other. There was lots of movement in all classes, but it seemed
to be going in different directions. Detailed results appear below in the tables. Overall, it appears
that the deficient or emerging students are decreasing, while established students (in the 25th-49th
percentile) -- I received an average of 22% growth in this category. However, the population of
students in the 50th percentile or higher also moved down. I believe this is partly because some
advanced students that tested in the 50th percentile or higher were moved to accelerated classes
after the fall benchmark, but I am also concerned that some of the advanced students in my class
might need to be challenged more in order to continue with their progress. I am also concerned
that my deficient and emerging population is not decreasing as much as I would like. After
reviewing my data, I have decided the following action steps are important in order to ensure all
my students are progressing accordingly:
1. All students will be set up for progress monitoring. They will be assessed once a month,
at the beginning of the month. Results will be shared frequently with students so they can
be held accountable and so they can reflect on their own goals.
2. Higher-level, complex texts will be provided to more advanced students in order to
receive continual challenges and help them progress in their reading abilities.
3. Targeted, differentiated, and small group instruction will be provided to students falling
under the deficient and emerging categories. These groups will center on reading and
discussing complex passages tailored to their level.
4. If students do not start showing progress during the first months, their progress
monitoring schedule will be moved to twice a month in order to have more data to
analyze.
