Calhoun is Now Accepting Scholarship Applications Through March 1

Calhoun Community College and the Calhoun Foundation are now accepting
applications for scholarship awards for the 2016-17 academic year. The
scholarships are competitively awarded based on criteria such as academic
success, demonstrated leadership, community service and financial need. There
are several categories of awards available; deadline to apply is March 1, 2016.
Scholarships to Recruit Specific Majors - Calhoun offers a variety of programspecific scholarships designed to recruit students into high-demand fields such
as the Performing Arts, Nursing, Math and the Technologies.
Valedictorians and Salutatorians attending Alabama public high schools in the
colleges service area of Madison, Morgan, Limestone, and parts of Lawrence
counties are eligible for automatic full-tuition academic scholarships. To qualify
for these awards, students must provide documentation demonstrating that they
are 1st or 2nd in their graduating class. Additionally, for the second consecutive
year, Calhoun is offering automatic scholarship awards to any 2016 graduating
high school student scoring 27 or higher on the ACT.
Performing Arts/Student Activities - Calhoun offers a limited number of
scholarships to students interested in the performing arts (theater, jazz band,
chorale, graphic/fine arts) and to students interested in serving as an officer of
the Student Government Association, or as a member of the Warhawks,
Calhoun's official student ambassadors.
Dr. James Klauber, Calhoun president, noted the importance of providing
scholarships to qualified students, stating that "It is important to keep quality
students in our community. They are our future. We cannot afford to let capable

students slip away under-educated, or for stellar students to get recruited into
other regions."
Interested students need only complete one application form which will qualify
them for consideration for any and all Calhoun Scholarships. The online
application and additional information may be found on the Calhoun website
at www.calhoun.edu/scholarships .
All students interested in applying for a scholarship must also complete and
submit a Federal Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) application. For more
details on these awards, call 256/713-4823 or visit the Scholarships Page on the
Calhoun website.
