ENGR 1001/101 Introduction to Engineering

Assignment 1
Please read carefully:
You are required to choose any engineering invention that appeared within the time period
starting from 1900 till this day (i.e. 2016). Your chosen engineering invention could be in any
field(s) of engineering. In only one A4 page you are required to do the following:
1- Clearly identify the invention of your choice. (i.e. its name)
2- State who invented such device, structure, application, process etc. and in which year
this invention appeared. (The invention could be related to one single person, more than
one person, a company etc.)
3- State what field(s) of engineering this invention is related to.
4- Briefly explain in simple words the function of your chosen invention. (what it exactly
does or performs)
5- In a very precise and concise way explain or convince me (i.e. the reader) why you think
this is one of the best inventions in the current time domain.
Extremely Important:
1- Assignments should be submitted at the beginning of the class.
2- No late assignments are accepted at all. (We should learn how to meet deadlines, this is
vital part of your training and an extremely important outcome of this course)
3- No handwritten assignments are accepted. Assignments should be written using a
computer and submitted in a neat well represented printed form.
4- You should staple your assignment to a cover page and the cover page should include the
following vital information:
- The name of the university
- Course number and name
- Your ENGR 1001 section number
- The title of your chosen invention
- Assignment number (i.e. Assignment 1)
- Assignment due date (DD/MM/YYYY, for example 14/02/2016)
- Your full name
- Your ID number
