Before you Beginto use your account.

Here is some basic information and links to help you if you are
going to use the UNIX account we issued you
You can use the labs on 2nd floor soda or work from home. Here is some basic information about how to
log in from home. You may need to play around with it a little bit.
If you have a mac, here are some links to help you use terminal to log in from home, which is already
on your machine to run

If you are using a PC you will need to download something called Putty in order to use your account
and remotely connect to Berkeley machines from home.

Once you download it will ask for a host name here are a couple of host names
cory.eecs.berkeley.edu
torus.cs.berkeley.edu

To use a file editor, once you log into your account you give it a file editor name and the name of the file
Emacs <filename>
If you are new to UNIX you might consider using pico editor. Its very basic and like word processing but
easy to get used to. So to us it just type
Pico <namefile>
