Abstract:
Studentswilltakeontheroleofentrepreneurandcreateabusiness,developabusinessplan,createbusinesscards,abusiness
pitchpresentationforTheSharkTank,acommercialtorunonthemorningshowadvertisingtheirbusiness,aonepage
advertisementfortheschoolnewspaper,andawebsitetodrawpotentialbuyersin.Thewillbedisplayingtheirfinalproducts
ataStudentBusinessFairattheRomeChamberofCommerceattheendoftheschoolyearyear.Studentswilllearnwhatit
takestogetabusinessstarted,thedevelopingbehindtheproduct/business,lawsandlicencesofbusinessdevelopment,and
howtocreateadvertisements(digital,video,andwordprocessing).Theywillalsolearnthebasicsofsettingupand
maintainingawebsite.Thisprojectwillproduceauthenticlearning,collaboration,andforcethestudentstotakeontheroleof
explorer,aswellasongoingandseamlessassessmentandperformancebasedassessments.Studentsareinneedofhighlevel
thinking,authenticlearning,andrealworldexperiencestoenhanceandengagethemwhileatschool.CreatingaBusiness
ThatLastwilldojustthosethings.

LearnerDescription/Context:
Themajorityofthelearningandcreatingwilltakeplaceinmycomputerlab,whichhas28computers.Theystudentswillbe
workingingroupsof23,however,eachwillhavetheirowncomputersotheymaytakeontherolesinwhichtheyassign
eachothertosharetheworkload.Studentswillalsobeworkinginmytechnologylabvideoproductionroomtofilmand
editthevideoadvertisement.StudentswillbeusingSkypeandTwittertodiscusstheirplanwithsuccessfulentrepreneurs
andbusinessleadersinRome,andacrossthecountry.Sincethestudentswillbechoosingacareerandbusinessthattheyare
interestedin,theycantakeownershipandprideintheproduct.Theyrealizethatthiswillbesomethingthattheycandoif
theycontinueschoolandworkveryhard.

TimeFrame:
Thisprojectwilltakeanentiresemester(18weeks),andwewillbeworkingoniteverydayinclass.Theywillhave
approximately3540minutesadaytowork.WewillhaverewardFridays,whereiftheymeettheirdeadline,theywillbe
abletotakethedayofftoexploresomethingelseoftheirchoice(GamestarMechanic,Scratch,etc.).

Wewillbeginthisprojectresearchingfamousentrepreneursandwhatentrepreneurshipis.Studentswillbeinterestedinhow
theseleadersstartedtheirownbusinessthatisnowsosuccessful.Iwillthenintroducethebusinessfair/sharktankpartofthe
project,whichwillmotivatestudentswiththeendgameinsight.TheywillwatchtheepisodeofSharkTankthatspotlights
youngentrepreneurs.(Studentsarealwaysmotivatedbymoney,prizes,andfame!)

Process:
Afterthehook/introductionactivity,Iwillpassoutanotebookcontainingalltheinformation,rubrics,andnotepages
thestudentswillneedforthelesson.Itwillhavecheckpointsthroughoutanddeadlinesthattheymustmeet.The
informationinthenotebookwillbelimited,sostudentswillhaveaclean,openslatetodeveloptheideasthemselves.Once
studentsgettoacheckpointintheproject,theywilllogontoEdmodotoblogaboutthatportionoftheproject.Studentswill
beabletoshareideasonthispostandofferencouragement.Iwillalsobeonthereprovidingfeedbackandongoing
assessments.Theywillreceiveagrade(andfeedback)formallyateachcheckpoint/deadline.Thestudentswillcontinue
collaboratingviaGoogledocsandworkingstraightthroughtheprojectcomponents,asImonitorandcoachthemthroughthe
process.Theywillalsobeincontactwithexpertsintheirtypeofbusinessthatwillbeguidingthemandgivingthem
feedbackandadvicethroughouttheentireproject.

Product:
Studentswillproduceacompletedbusinessplan,workingwebsite,videoadvertisement,printadvertisement,businesscards
alltobeusedandshownattheBusinessFair.MembersofthecommunityandbusinessleadersinRome,aswellasparents
andeducatorswillseetheproductsattheBusinessFair.Thetop5businessproposalswillgototheSharkTank.Students
willusetechnologyfromstarttofinishinthisproject.Theywillusetheinternettoresearchcareers,plans,andlaws.They
willuseGoogleDocstocollectalltheirwork,sotheycaneachcollaboratebackandforthinthedocument.Theywilluse
Weeblytocreatetheirwebsites.Next,theywillusePublisher/GoogleDrawingtocreatebusinesscards,andPrezifortheir
presentations.Whenmakingtheadvertisements,theywillbeusingPublisherfortheprintadandiMovieforthecommercial.
TheywillalsobeusingSkypeandTwittertotalkwithprofessionalsabouttheirproject.Last,theywilluseEdmodotoblog
abouttheirjourneythroughtheproject.Rubricswillbegivenforeachproductintheproject.Miniassessmentsandfeedback
willbegiventhroughouttheprojectinEdmodo.

TechnologyUse:
StudentswillbeusingthecomputerandInterneteverydaywhenworkingontheproject.TheywilluseGoogleDocs,
Edmodo,andiMovietocompleteassignmentsandcollaboratewithmeandtheirpeers.TheywillalsobeusingSkypeand
Twittertocollaboratewiththeirmentor/realworldexpert.Usingthistechnology,studentswillbeengagedinauthentic
learningandabletocollaboratewithotherssuccessfully.Theassessmentswillalsobeongoingandtimely.Studentswillbe
inchargeoftheirlearningandIwillbeabletocoachanddirectthemonthejourney.
