Being an Educator: My Philopshy Statement 1

My Philosophy Statement
Molding the next generation is not an easy task. As an educator in elementary education,
I am aware of the different techniques and strategies to be an exemplary teacher. Two core
principals frame my educational philosophy: honoring differences and efficient teaching. There
are many classroom methods that I use to make sure all students actively participate and learn.
Many educators do not use all the tools available to help children develop. As an educator, my
goal is to guide my students to become well-rounded individuals who will be an asset to the next
generation in society.
Education is critical to the success of our country and the world. John Dewey states,
Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. Dewey understands the importance
of the education system and how it has an enormous impact on our existence. Without the expert
knowledge of some individuals, we would no longer advance in technology, science, or the
medical fields. This would cause digression over extended periods because of the loss of
information. Without knowledge, our longevity of life would still be at the average age of 50.
Currently, we have people reaching into their 100s thanks to the well-educated doctors. Many
people underestimate the role of a teacher in society. The true purpose of education is a statement
Nelson Mandela once made.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.Nelson Mandela
Mandela was correct when he stated that education can change the world. Wars have become a
rarity because of the emphasis in our school system to make sure history does not repeat itself
over petty differences. The knowledge from history class, imparted to us throughout our school

years, has made society function more smoothly. Educated individuals can tactfully examine
situations and diffuse differences in opinion with the use of proper moral understandings.
History has also provided us with many instances of hate and injustice. As an educator, a
No-Hate Policy is strictly enforced and integrated into my classroom and curriculum. I will not
tolerate discrimination of race, religion, gender, socio-economic status, illness, exceptionalities
or any other arising reason. All children deserve equal experiences throughout life and their
educational journey. Scolding, yelling, and demining is not an appropriate strategy to use with
students. Supporting good behavior strategies are essential when you have children with different
backgrounds. Knowing that every child comes from various backgrounds, I promise the
integration of different cultures and cultural awareness will be a priority within my classroom.
No matter the differences that exist, every child should feel respected and honored to be who
they are.
During my time at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, I was taught many ways to
be an effective teacher. My personal teaching approach is mostly a learner-centered method that
focuses on the individual's development. Each student has unique skills and abilities that could
help other students excel. Although I approach my classroom with learner-centered methods, I
am careful to manage my classroom and always stay on task. Strategies will be varied and will
peek the curiosity of the learner. With the teacher-centered or traditional methods, children seem
to get bored easily and lose the respect they once had for education. All lessons will reach the
three different types of learning styles: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Technology will be used
only when necessary. It is an excellent tool to possess but should not replace the teachers
knowledge and expertise.

My Philopshy Statement

Children should have a love for learning and want to participate actively in the class. My
classroom will not only focus on the lessons that are required by the State. I believe every child
should also practice moral development on their educational journey. With the difficulties of
teaching everything required, I will always go the extra mile to make sure my students are
prepared to be productive citizens and/or self-sufficient. My classroom goal is always to keep it
fun and interactive, so children continue to love learning.
The educational development of my students is not only a professional priority; It is a
personal priority for each child to live up to their potential. Being an educator is not just a
profession but a way that I can leave my stamp on this world. Knowing the possibility that a
child in my class may go on to be a doctor or cure cancer, makes this profession a passion.
