1. Introduction:

5-10

Start off by reminding students what we learnt in the last lesson

about short story conventions. If needed go into more detail about
conventions if students want. Run through parameters of the short
story writing exercise, find out if anyone needs any help.
Wait for silence behaviour management standards set by mentor
teacher
Good afternoon, we learnt about short story conventions, is there
anything anyone was unclear about?
Parameters of short story writing exercise: Science Fiction genre,
300 words, just the beginning of the short story, two points of
view. Know the theme you want to explore what is the conflict?,
the type of science fiction you want to use (technology, time
hopping, space, aliens, dystopia, futuristic, cyberpunk) , how you
are going to create characterisation and setting through figurative
language, P.O.V, imagery.

30-40

2. Sequence of learning experiences:

Students will work on the beginning of their short stories for the
majority of the lesson. Small amount of chatter will be allowed but
should not be much more than that, expect work to be done.
Walk around the class and help where needed.
Possible themes isolation, loneliness, materialism, corruption,
oppression, conspiracy, love, relationships
Advise when students have 5 minutes left and you expect all quite
and attention at that point when I am standing at the front of the
class.

10-15

Students will read out their short stories to the class (those who
want to).

3. Lesson conclusion:

Point out the conventions used in the students stories and how
they successfully met the requirements of the writing exercise.
Allow students to pack up when 2 minutes of class time is
remaining and not before use pointed looks and remind students
they shouldn't be packing up until my say so if they try to pack up
early.

Lesson Evaluation:
I focused more on behaviour management in this lesson, the students
responded well with minimal talking. Detailing in my lesson plan how I would
start the lesson what I would say helped immensely in getting the lesson
started the way I wanted. I found the students asking questions about the
parameters of the short story that were set in place in the beginning of the
lesson need to explain more slowly and perhaps write them on the
whiteboard so the students can refer back to them. Towards the end of the
lesson I asked who would be wanting to read out their stories and only 3
hands went up so I modified the lesson to give them an extra 5 minutes
writing time. While walking around I managed to read a few of the stories
and helped students with ideas for plot and how to work within the
parameters set for the writing exercise. I felt the lesson ran mostly to plan
and smoothly. The learning objectives for this lesson were reached
satisfactorily.
