Treasure Map Project!

The following project has several parts

Part A:
You are given a blank treasure map and a blank template for
your directions. There must be at least one point in every
quadrant. You need to begin at the origin (0,0) to begin your
journey of 6 steps. Then you have to provide written
directions and show your steps on the map.
Then, tell us about your treasure. What did you hide? Why
is it so special to you?
Part B:
The City Grid is provided and the citizens of the town need
your help! Follow the directions and inform the citizens
about several points.
Part C:
Mathematical Computation and written explanation.

Levels
Above & Beyond
You go above and
beyond what is
required of you. You
put in outstanding
effort and show great
understanding of the
topic.
4

At the Top
You put in the right
amount of effort. And
have met the
appropriate standards.
3

On My Way
You are on your way
so dont give up!
There is somewhat of
an understanding, but
the topic is not clear.
2

Not Yet
You are not there yet.
It looks like you did
not apply yourself,
like I know you can.
It looks like you do
not understand the
topic.

You are able to

properly plot your
points and find the
absolute value. You
wrote the coordinates
properly.

You have properly

written out an
explanation with the
correct proof to
support your
reasoning.

You are able to

explain how you have
reached your answer
and solved the given
problem. You actively
participate in the
correct manner and
are attentive and
thorough throughout
the entire process.

There must be a point in every quadrant.

1) Start at (0,3) Move 5 north then move 4 west New Point A (

2) Move 4 south then move 4 west New Point B (

3) Move 3 east then move 6 south New Point C (

4) Move 5 east then move 5 south New Point D (

5) Move 5 north then move 5 east New Point E (

6) Move 6 north then move 3 east New Point F (

7) Move 4 north then move 3 west New Point G (

Explain your treasure! What did you hide? Why is it so important to

you?

Maps are often represented on coordinate planes like the one

shown below. Each unit on the grid represents one mile.
Example: A building located at (0,2) is 2 miles away from a
building located at (0,4).

Part B:
There are six buildings that need to be plotted on a city grid:
City Hall (0, 1),

Westfield Mall (4, -3),

Bobcat Stadium (3, 2),

McKinley High School (-4, 1),

Roberts Middle School (-4, 3),

Grovers Mill (-3, -4).

Place a point on the graph to represent each building and label it with
the correct building name.

Which building is farther to the west: Roberts Middle School or the

Grovers Mill?
Explain your answer in words and by writing an inequality using the
proper
coordinates and either the greater than (<) or less than (>) sign.

Part C
a) |-3| =
d) |-3 | + |-5| =

b) |5| =
e) |16-11| =

c) - |-4| =
f) -|10-3| =

All roads in the city travel either north and south or east and west. How
many
miles must the citys residents travel to go from the Bobcat Stadium to
Grovers
Mill? Explain. Your explanation should include absolute value.
