Re: Auburn Man Arrested for Burglary

On Thursday April 15th, 2010 at approximately 10:44pm, Auburn Police were dispatched
to 35 Quill Ave, Oak Creek Townhomes to an apartment in the “M” building on the
report from a resident that someone was trying to get into his apartment. As Officers
were dispatched Cayuga County E-911 personnel continued talking with the victim who
stated he was in an upstairs bathroom and he could hear someone now walking around
inside his apartment.

As arriving Officers Brandi Quigley and Stephen McLoughlin took up a perimeter around
the victims apartment Officer McLoughlin confronted a black male in the rear patio area
of the victim’s apartment. The suspect was ordered to stop, which he did and he was then
detained by police. Upon further investigation and interview with the victim it was
determined that some property was missing from the victim’s apartment which included a
camera. This camera was subsequently located in the coat pocket that the suspect was
wearing when he was detained by Police.

Following the investigation into this incident Police have charged Michael R. Hines with
burglary 2nd and petit larceny. Hines is a neighbor and acquaintance of the victim in this
case.
