Tennis Baseball
Number of Players/How Teams are Selected: The numbers of players in this game are 20. With
tennis baseball, the game has a very unique style so that optimal OTRs (Opportunity to
Response) are very high. The teams will be preselected by the teacher with a mix of students
with different skill levels. The teacher will find out this after the teacher gets an assessment of
the students skill levels during the introductory lessons in the Striking Games unit in Physical
Education class.
Positions: There are the classic 9 positions in tennis baseball. Very similar to baseball with
infielders, a pitcher, catcher, and outfilders on the defensive side. On offensive there is one hitter
at a time.
Facility: The facilities needed for Tennis Baseball would best be in a baseball field which has
3 bases, a home plate, and a backstop. outside but can be done in the gymnasium if space is
permitted. This modified game would best be played outside due to the space and would be a
great activity to introduce in a striking games unit outdoors in the fall or spring when the weather
is ideal.
Equipment and Materials Needed: The equipment needed are a one tennis ball, one tennis
racket and 3 bases and 1 home plate for the offensive players to run to. Students will also have
baseball gloves so they can catch the ball.
Two Outcomes for the Game:
1. Skill Development with Striking Implements- One of the main focuses of this activity is to
develop hand eye coordination with a fun and modified game of baseball. This allows the
student to work on hand eye coordination with a tennis racket that is much bigger than a baseball
bat that allows the offensive player a greater chance at success.
2. Teamwork- Tennis Baseball requires teamwork. Teamwork is an essential quality not just in
Physical Education class but in life.

Rules and Regulations: What makes Tennis Baseball so unique is that the game is very fast
pace and everyone gets an opportunity for success. In this game, the offensive player is..
allowed to swing at one pitch to maximize OTRs for all students.
If the hitter misses or fouls the tennis ball out of play, then the hitter is out.
The offensive team tries to get around the bases and touch home plate without being called out.
Innings are over when every player on the offensive team has batted. (The objective of the
offensive team is to score as many runs in that inning as you can)
The defensive team gets an out by either catching or gathering the tennis ball and throw it to the
proper base for an out(s).
The offensive player gets a max of five pitches from the pitcher before the sixth pitch must be
hit.
If the tennis ball goes outside of the foul play lines then this is a foul ball and the hitter is out.
There are nine innings played.
The same defensive player cant pitch two innings in a row.
The batting order works on a ladder system where if one inning the hitter starts off batting first
then the next inning the batter hits last.
The team with the highest score will win after nine innings.
The pitcher must throw overhand unless the teacher modifies.
Extension Up: If the defensive outfielder catches the tennis ball with one hand, then the
opposing offensive team loses a run that they have scored.
Extension Down: If the teacher finds that the students are having a hard time hitting the tennis
ball overhand, then the pitcher must throw the tennis ball underhand.
Safety Tips: The teacher should remind the students to keep their heads and eyes on the tennis
ball so no one is hit and injured. Also, when the racket is being swung, make sure no students
are near the batter.

Speed Kickball
Number of Players/How Teams are Selected: Teams are 20 students with two teams of ten.
Similar to Tennis Baseball this game will be quick moving with all the students moving and
working together at once. The teacher needs to assess his or her students in order for this activity
to be a enjoyable learning environment,
Positions: There are the classic nine positions like baseball. There is the catcher, pitcher, four
infielders, and three outfielders. On offense there is one kicker at a time.
Facility: Speed Kickball would best be played outside where there is a lot of space (Example:
Grass) so the students arent constricted in where they can run. The game will be much
smoother with a lot of space.
Equipment and Materials Needed: The equipment needed is bases for the offensive player and a
ball that can be kicked such as a soccer ball or kick ball.
Two Outcomes for the Game:
1. Teamwork- This game requires a lot of teamwork with the team the student is on. This game
builds teamwork. Students will work with their team trying to score runs.
2. Cooperation- Communication and trust will lead to cooperation within the team that will help the
students be successful.
Rules and Regulations: The rules and regulations of Speed Kickball are..
The offensive player's objective is to kick the ball as far as they can in the air or the ground and
run around the bases.
The defensive player's objective is to gather the ball.

The offensive player goes around all of the bases as many times as they can until..
The defensive team has all nine members of the team catch and throw the ball around to each
other until ALL of the defensive players have caught the ball. Once everyone has caught and
thrown the ball, the last player throws the ball back to the pitcher and the offensive player who is
running around the bases must stop.
The defense remains on defense until all of the offensive players have kicked the ball.
Each base the kicker touches counts as one point.
The game goes on until the teacher ends the class.
Extension Up: The Kicker can kick a soccer ball which makes the ball travel less.
Extension Down: The defensive team will only have to throw it to three members of the team
before the offensive player has to stop.
Safety Tips: The students should be reminded of the safety concerns that some students may hit
the ball of choice hard so the students should always be focused in the game so that the ball
doesnt injury any student. Also, students should be aware of their surroundings so they do not
run into each other.

Playing Field

Royal King of the Court (Tennis Modified Game)

Number of Players/How Teams are Selected: Teams are selected at random by the teacher, 20
students can participate. Teams can be in pair or singles depending on how much space is
permitted.
Positions: The positions are either doubles in a tennis match where there are two players on one
side of the court or singles where there are only one player per side of the court in regards to
space being permitted.
Facility: King of the Court must be played outside on the tennis courts which are 78 feet long
and 27 feet wide.
Equipment and Materials Needed: Tennis balls (30) and tennis rackets (20),
Two Outcomes for the Game:
1. Communication with your partner in King of the Court is essential and will help the student
gain knowledge of how teamwork is used in PE class.
2. Strategy- The team must come up with a strategy on how to gain a point and stay on top of the
court. (Example: One partner up high and one partner low)

Rules and Regulations: Depending on how many Tennis Courts are available will determine
whether each student is playing by themselves or with a partner. The rules to king of the court
are.
One player or pair takes their place at one end of the net and are labeled the King for the time
being. Teacher determines who goes first by selecting a random pair by a group division strategy.
The next player or pair will receive a shot that the offensive team chooses from the King of the
court and will try to score a point on the King(s).
If the King(s) score then they will remain King(s) of the Court and the losing player or pair will
go to the end of the line or the next court. There shouldn't be more than a one turn wait. If the
line is to long the teacher will tell a group or player to go to another court,
If the King's) lose the point then they will go to the next court or the end of the line and the
player or team that score on them will become the new Kings.
If space permits then there can be a winning court where it becomes a ladder style tournament
and the winners of the point move up and the losers of the point move down for optimal OTRs.

Extension Up: If time permits then the games can go to two points in order to dethrone the kings
of the court.
Extension Down: If the King(s) have been the King(s) for a long time the teacher can either split
the pair up or proclaim a new king(s) of the court.
Safety Tips: The teacher should remind the students to be aware of the tennis balls and racket at
all times. Also students should be aware of each other and make sure no one runs into anyone
else.

Extreme Ping-Pong
Number of Players/How Teams are Selected: There are two players per team and the teams are
selected by the teacher who pre-assessed all of the students to match the teams up evenly. There
are 10 teams of 2.
Positions: Each team will have two players lined up next to each other to start the game.
Facility: This game would best be played indoors in a gymnasium with optimal space. The table
tennis court has a serving box and service line.
Equipment and Materials Needed: Wooden Pickleball paddles (20), whiffle balls (30), and
Tennis or Pickleball nets. (4 to 8)

Two Outcomes for the Game:

1. Physical Activity- This game is a bigger version of Table Tennis that is promoting students to be
physically active and work on their Cardiovascular Endurance.

2. Tactics- Teams will need to work on tactics in order to win their match. Teams will come up with
certain strategies such as who is stronger high or who is stronger on the low side.

Rules and Regulations: The the rules are.

Games go to 15 in singles games and 21 in doubles games.
Players serve the ball from behind the boundary line on the court,
Players must serve overhand or underhand.
A player or team serves five times then the serve goes to the other team.
When serving the ball, it must bounce on the serving team or player's side once before it goes
over the net.
The ball may only bounce two times on a side, the third time is a point for the receiving team.
The receiving team can hit the ball in the air or the bounce and gets a point if the ball goes past
the defenders.
Extension Up: If the teams and players are skilled enough, the ball may only bounce once on
their side before hitting the ball over.
Extension Down: The teacher will make the court smaller if the teacher finds that the teams or
players are having a difficult time getting the ball over the net through the teacher's assessment
of the teams or player.
Safety Tips: The teacher will aware the students of the hazards of the ball coming at a player and
the rackets. Also, students will be aware of their surroundings and watch out for other members
of the class.

Hot Spot Table Tennis

Number of Players/How Teams are Selected: Teams are selected by teachers assessment of the
skills of the students and there can be as many players as table tennis tables permit. 10 teams of
2 students.
Positions: There is a receiver and a server. Two players per table.
Facility: Table tennis tables are needed in order to play this game.
Equipment and Material Needed: Table Tennis Table, Table Tennis Balls, Table Tennis Paddles,
and Hotspots (20 hot spots, 30 tennis table balls, and 20 paddles.)
Outcomes for the Game:
1. Skill Development- This game works on hand eye coordination with the practice of hitting the
ball and focusing on the ball.
2. Strategy- The player will focus on strategy on offense when the player tries to hit the hot spot.
The defensive team will need to determine how far back they play on the table.

Rules and Regulation- In this game, the offensive player will..

Have a hotspot to hit when the opponent puts the hotspot on a certain location on the defensive
player's side of the table.
If the offensive player can successfully hit the hot spot from a drop spot from the defender than
the offensive player will receive a point.
If the offensive player misses, the defensive player is now on offense and the former offensive
player who is now on defense will set up the hot spot somewhere on their side. Making it
difficult for the opponent to score.
There will be one drop shot then switch.
First to 11 wins.
This game emphasises working on the key points for accuracy on the serve.
The serves change on each shot. The same player never is on offense twice in a row.
You must win by two points.
Extension Up: Make the target the offensive player is aiming for smaller. (Example: A piece of
paper instead of a hotspot)
Extension Down: Make the target bigger such as a bigger hotspot.
Safety Tips: The players at one table must watch out for the other player on the other tables so
students are in their own personal space. Students should be aware of how to properly grip the
racket so the racket doesnt go flying around the playing area.
