accomplished in the activity sheets will yield better learning results.

SCHOOL FACILITIES CHECKLIST

Familiarize yourself with the different areas and facilities of the school. Check the
column to indicate their availability. Give a brief description of those that are
available on the last column.
Facilities

Available

Not
Available

Description

Office of the Principal

Is air conditioned, the furniture are

properly arranged, it is clean, the
room is fresh and pleasant to the
eyes.

Library

I think the library is not enough for

the students to learn because there
are books but it is too less for the
students. The shelves of the books
are properly arranged. Also I have
noticed that the library has a big
bear and a carpet that can be used
by the students to be comfortable.

Counselling Room
Canteen/Cafeteria

There are two canteens in the two

buildings of the GTDLNHS; I think
the canteen is enough and the
students will be comfortable on it.
There are street foods; also they
have siomai rice, foot long, ice
cream, etc. As I can observe, this
type of canteen has a complete
package of foods.

Medical Clinic

There are medicines for the students

who are sick, they have bed that can

be used by their patient, also they

assigned a clinician to facilitate the
students who
have some illness.

Reading Center
Speech Laboratory
Science Laboratory

Comfort Room for Boys

Comfort Room for Girls

It has science laboratory and it is

used by the students who have
experiments.
The court is enough to use by the
students when they have some
activities like intramurals. And as I
knew they used their own
gymnasium in celebrating the
Junior-Senior Prom Night. They also
used the court in some meetings of
parents; the court is clean and bigenough.

Service Bureau
Registrars Office

Computer Laboratory

It is clean, there are sofas for the

visitors like the parents being talked.
The furniture are properly
arranged, the curtains is beautiful
and well blended to the color of the
walls. They are also designs.
As I enter the comfort room of girls,
it has three cubicle but not all of that
can be used, because the one cubicle
has a broke door.

They have a Registrars Office and it

is located at the main building.
There are two computer laboratories
in this school. It is clean; there are at
least fifty computers in each
building.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
space provided.
1. Describe the community or neighbourhood where the school is found.
2. Describe the school campus. What colors do you see? What is the condition of the
buildings?
3. Pass by the offices. What impression do you have of these offices?
4. Walk through the school halls, the library, and the cafeteria. Look around and find out
the other facilities that the school has.

As I enter the school and look around the community where Gen T De Leon
National High School, the neighborhood of it are usually a store, also a carinderia. The
school also is near in jeep station, but the school is near in the Pandayan Bookstore,
where the students can by the things that they needed in school. As I enter the school
campus, it is clean, and as I can say, it is a environmental friendly type of school because
of the trees and plants around it. The school ground is clean, as I pass through the
hallways, I can see some charts about the achievements of the school. The top students,
and also the teachers who gave pride to the school. The color of the building
compliments the color of brown.
In this school, they have two buildings, the main and the new building. There are
school library in the main building, it is clean, the shelves and books are properly
arranged. There are computer laboratory in each building, there are at least 50
computers in each building.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to
record your data.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What heroes, religious
figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?
2. Examine how the furniture is arranged. Where is the teachers table located? How are the
tables and chairs/desks arranged?
3. What learning materials/equipment are present?
4. Observe te students. How many are occupying one room?
5. Is the room well lighted and well ventilated?

of the room are also there.
The teachers table is located at the front
and it is used by the teacher to put their

The learners desk are not enough for the
students, because as I observe there are
some broken chairs and other students
used mono block chairs which is not
comfortable to use because there are no
armchairs.
The blackboards are usually in the front,
but as our teacher said, the design of the
board must be in U-shaped so that the
board are not too shiny because of the
sun.
The learning materials or the visual aids
are usually provided by their teacher.
The electric fans are enough for the
students for them to feel comfortable
because they are well-ventilated. At least
2-4 electric fans in each room.
The light are enough because at least 4
lights are well-lighted the room.
There are cleaning materials in their

front and the teacher put their visual aids that they going to post as they
discussed the topic. The learners desk is not enough because some students used
mono block chairs which is not comfortable to use because it does not have arm
chairs that they used when they are writing.
The entire classroom can facilitate learning because they can provide the
needs of the students although there are some little problems that can be solved
like the scarcity in chairs.

Your Analysis
How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact on the learning of the
students
going
to
school?
What
are
your
conclusions?
The school shall be clean because this is probably the place where rooms are
located, so that is has a great impact when it comes to the learning of students. The
cleanliness of the school can affect the learning. The school campus shall provide the

needs of the students in learning. The lights must occupy all parts of the room. All
students must be well ventilated for them to be comfortable.
How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development? How does
this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?
In the child and adolescent development, it relates that the environment
where the learners cope learning or knowledge.
In the facilitating learning, my teacher discussed that to facilitate learning
you must relate your topic to true to life situations.

YourReflections
1.Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why
not?
Yes, because it is clean, the teachers and staffs are kind. The
environment of the campus is nice. And it is my pleasure to teach in the school
I was observed. The school is fresh because of the trees around it.
2.What

kind

of

school

campus

is

conducive

to

learning?

The kind of school which is conducive to learning is clean, there are

complete facilities for the learning of students.
3.What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?
The classroom which is conducive to learning must be clean, wellventilated and lighted for the students to be comfortable in studying. The
teacher
shall
have
rules
and
regulations
in
the
room.
4.In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?
By giving my rules and regulations in the first day of school will
accomplish my answer in the question number 3. And the rules and
regulations I was state shall apply every day.
5. Write your additional learning and insights here.
In my own opinion, the environments where the learners study greatly
affect the knowledge they accept. Students must be comfortable in their seats
or in the room they are studying for them not to be irritable.

My Personal Illustration of an Effective School Environment

The picture above describes the characteristics of an effective school

environment, because it is clean environmental friendly school. There are books that
may use by the student. The students are well-ventilated and well-lighted. The
computers are enough because it occupies all the students. The students use
computers as one is to one so that there are much comfortable because they did not

share computers in their classmates. The chairs must be comfortable for the
students as seen on the picture, the tables and chairs are near in the board so that
students will see directly the important words that their teacher write on the boards.

checklist if a more detailed observation is preferred.
Physical
1. Observe their gross motor skills. How they carry themselves? How they move,
walk, run, go up the stairs, etc.?
2. Are gross movements clumsy or deliberate/smooth?
3. How about their fine motor skills? Writing, drawing, etc.
Social
1. Describe how they interact with teachers and other adults.
2. Note how they also interact with peers. What do they talk about? What are their
concerns?
Emotional
1. Describe the emotional disposition or temperament of the learners. (happy, sad,
easily cries, mood-shifts)
2. How do they express their wants/needs? Can they wait?
3. How do they handle frustrations?
4. Describe their level of confidence as shown in their behaviour. Are they selfconscious?
Cognitive
1. Describe their ability to use words to communicate their ideas. Note: their
language proficiency.

2. Describe how they figure out things. Do they comprehend easily? Look for
evidence of their thinking skills.
3. Where there opportunities for problem solving? Describe how did they show
problem solving abilities

YourReflections
1. While you were observing the learners, did you recall your own experiences when
you were their age? What similarities or differences do you have with the learners
you observed?
There are some similarities i recall when i observing learners. I like to do some
things to not feel bored in the subject. I feel nervous when it comes to the point that it
is the recitation time and our teacher will call a student to answer the question. But our
differences is that I am not talking to my seatmates when the discussion started. Also
I'm not standing while the teachers are discussing like the students do in the room i
observed.
2.

Think of a teacher you cannot forget for positive or negative reasons. How did she/he
help or not help you with your needs (physical, emotional, social, cognitive)? How
did
it
affect
you?
The teacher in mathematics subject i cannot forget is Mrs. Fernandez,
because she help me find my likes, my future subject to be teach. This affect me too
much because as of now i am studying college to become a mathematics teacher. She
inspire me to become a teacher. She explains how Mathematics important. She serves
as my inspirations up to now. After college, I am teaching in a school and teach
mathematics subject

3.

Which is your favorite theory of development? How can this guide you as a future
teacher?
My Favourite Theory of Development is Piagets Theory, because it says that
all of us learn and act according to our ages. And I relate it to the observation in the
school I was observed, because I observed Grade 7 and 4 th year students. I observed the
differences of them according to the way they acts. Because 4 th year students are
matured enough than the Grade 7 students.

In my own opinion, there are so many theories about the theory of

development but they seems to be similar in terms of their meanings. And the

An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics

Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.
Name of the School Observed General Tiburcio DE Leon National High School
School Address Mercado St. cor. Gen. T. de Leon Rd., Brgy. Gen. T. de Leon

Date of Visit February 12, 2015
In the class of IV-Navalesca, the ages range in 15-16 years ole. there are all 49
in the class: 20 boys and 29 girls. Their behavior is noisy and has a small span of
attention. I think they can manage their own behavior because they are already 4th
year students and they are matured enough to manage their own behavior. I think
they cannot work independently because sometimes they ask for the help of their
classmates to explain other topics. They have a small span of attention, but their
thinking and listening skills are enough to know the lesson well.
Compared to the grade 7 students i have observed. They are very noisy. they
like to stand up even though their teacher is discussing. But the teacher try to manage
his and her students by the different strategies in teaching like if the students are too
noisy, try to be silent and they will observe the silence in the classroom. in that way
you will get their attention
In this observation, I really proved those students or a child acts according to
their ages and abilities to cope lessons or learning from others.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can
verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the
table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher
do?
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)
Observation notes:
In the classroom i observed, there are cabinet for the cleaning materials. the
books are usually give to the students on the firs day of class.
The rules and regulations are not posted because it is usually discussed in the
first day of meeting of students and teacher.
There are all participate in the rules and regulations on the classroom like
arranging of chairs, cleaning the room, don't disturbed the class during discussion
and etc.

The routines of the teacher I observed is: greetings, room inspection, checking
of attendance and assignments then discussion.
There are areas in the classroom for specific purposes, there are cabinet for
the cleaning materials inside the classroom, like dustpan, broom, floor wax, etc.
There are posters and charts about different subjects, also the achievements or
ranking of the students. It is a must that the students shall participate in making the
classroom rules, because they are the one who will work on it. The common routines
done by the teacher are: greetings, room inspection, checking of attendance and
assignment then proceed to discussion.
The seating arrangement on the room I observe is usually alternate boys and
girls. the basis of this type of arrangement is to avoid the noise and cheating during
examination. as I observe, when the teacher knew that the classroom is too noisy the
teacher is probably do the move to be silent and when his students knew it, they also
keep their mouth shut. To reinforce positive behavior, they gave additional score in
the next quiz of the students and to encourage them to do positive behaviors.

YourAnalysis
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners behaviour?
The daily routines and classroom organization affect the behavior of
the learners because in this way, by giving them classroom organization will help
them to discipline by following the rules of their teacher.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
The teacher shall ask for the help of the students in making the
organizations and routines of the room, so that they are aware in the routines of
the room and they will be able to follow it because they are also the one who
make it.
3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the learners?
In
motivating
students?
Why
were
they
effective?
I think the strategies that will be effective for the learners to listen is by giving
them activities first, as motivation, which is connected to the topic to be

discussed. this can motivate them because they feel an enjoyment, and also it
would be easy for the teacher to discussed the topic because the students have
background regarding the lesson that will discussed. It will be effective because
the teacher will get the attention of the learners.

YourReflections
1. Improve yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level
do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level? Why?
I prefer to teach High school students because they are matured
enough in handling different situations unlike grade students they are not
fully
developed.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose
these
rules?
First I will implement the rule that, before the discussion starts, the
room must be clean, the chairs are properly arranged. There are no students
standing during the discussion. No talking to their seatmates during quiz or
examination. I choose these rules because I like to have an organized
classroom.
3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?
Yes, for them to be able to know the rules they have to follow.

Leon, Valenzuela City
Date of Visit January 20, 2015
As I observed the classroom of fourth year students, the students are
noisy. They are all talking to their seatmates. Their ages are ranges 14-16. The
number of girls is larger than boys. as I observe most of the students who did
not participate in the lesson are the students seating on the back. They have
their own businesses and their teacher didn't mind them. So that I conclude
that the students seating in the front and back behaves and interacts
differently.
The students participates actively are those who recites when they
teacher asks questions, and the students who needs help are those at the back
because they didn't listen to their teacher.
When a student is called and cannot answer the question of their
teacher, his/her classmate try to help him and raising their hands so their
teacher calls him/her instead. This observation is during the class discussion
of the teacher I observed.

YourAnalysis
1. Identify the persons who play key roles in the relationships and interactions in the
classrooms. What roles do they play? Is there somebody who appears to be the
leader, a mascot/joker, an attention seeker, a little teacher, a doubter/pessimist?
In a classroom, there are students who have roles to play. Of course,
there are leaders, who manage their classmates when he/she knew that they are
too noisy and this student is usually the president of the class. They also a joke,
usually found at the front and the back seat, who gave happiness and made the
room enjoyable. To recall the topic to his or her classmates are the role of the
little teacher. Last is the attention seeker, they always want the attention of all of
everyone in the class.
2. Are students coming from the minority group accepted or rejected by the others?

How is this shown?

3. How does the teacher influence the class interaction considering the individual

differences
of
the
students?
The teacher influence the class interaction considering the uniqueness of
the students, by giving different activities that help their students develop their
skills. As we all know we all have "multiple intelligence", not all of us learn on
only one strategy. Some students learn visually, this type of students love to see
pictures. Others learned by doing which is the bodily-kinaesthetic. According to
research the students learn if they are the one who made it. And it is according
to Dale's Cone Of Experience.

4. What factors influence the grouping of learners outside the classroom?

As I can see almost all of the students who is smart have their own group. They
also have all boys group, girls group. Usually, they have friends which is their
seatmates.

YourReflections
1. How did you feel being in that classroom? Did you feel a sense of oneness or unity
among
the
learners
and
between
the
teacher
and
the
learners?
Yes, especially when the teacher give a activity by group. As a observer,
students have the unity who brainstorm or giving ideas about the question giving to
them. While they are answering it, the teacher moves around to help or approach
students who did not understand well the direction of what they will do, and also to
see the works. As I can see they have the unity or the oneness.
2. In the future, how would you want the learners in your classroom interact? How will
you
make
this
happen?
In the future, I want all the learners will recite in the classroom so that they
will be able to focus on the lesson and listen, I make them recite one by one. If the
student did not answer correctly, i will ask him/her what part of the lesson he did
not understand. In this kind of routines will help them study the lesson and this will
help them improved.
3. How will you encourage all learners, regardless of religious, ethnic or race
background,
to
interact
and
participate?
I will encourage them to participate in the lesson regardless of religious,
ethnic or racial background by respecting their beliefs and cultures. Then, during
the discussion in solving and reciting at the board, if they did not answer correctly,

this will help them to learn from their mistakes. I will help them to solve the
questions I have given them, then after that they have to answer it on their own.

Date of Visit January 22, 2015

In the classroom, as i observe the class, they have the individual

differences like the way they act. As i knew those students who performed
well are always neat to the front or on the board. They are listening to their
teacher, but the students who seems to be behind are those at the back,
they always want to talk to their classmates even though the teacher is
discussing the lesson. In terms of behavior, the high achiever is the one who
is silent and listening to their teacher discussion, they interact their teacher
when they have questions also when they interact with their seatmates they
talked
about the lesson.
In the low achiever students, they are the one who make noise. they
just hear the lesson but they did not listen. they talked about non sense.
But if the teacher knew it and react if they are not listen, they will try to be
silent and listen to their teacher. When i asked the teacher regarding the
students, she said that some of his students did not want to recite or
volunteering to answer but when the written examination came. they
performed well. so i conclude that even though the students did not always
recite they cam performed when it comes to written.
As teachers we have to accept that all of us are unique, we all have
the individual differences.

YourAnalysis
1. Did your observation match the information given by the teacher? Were you able to
correctly identify who among students performed well and who did not? What
behaviour helped you identify them? (volunteering to answer, responding to
teachers
directions,
etc)
In the observation on who among the students performed well and who
did not is cannot answer if you didn't know them very well. As the teacher
said, even though not all students are volunteering to answer. Some students
are does very well when it comes to written. The students who follow the
directions of teachers also performed well in the class. The behavior like noise
at the back helps me identify who among the students who did not performed
well.
2. Describe the differences in ability levels of the students in the class. Is there a wide
gap between the students who are performing well and those that are not?
In terms of the gap between the students who performed well and those
who are not, doesn't have a too wide gap because as i can see there is always
hope in the eyes of the students who did not listen because they are times that
they want to cope the lesson of the teacher. Some students are not good in
participating in recitation but good in writing and solving. They have their
own uniqueness and abilities so that we cannot judge them on the spot if they
did not actually know them.
3. Describe the methods used by the teacher in handling the students differences in
abilities.
How
did
the
students
respond
to
the
teacher?

YourReflections
1. Recall the time you were in the elementary or high school. Recall the high and low
achievers in your class. How did your teacher deal with differences in abilities? Was your
teacher

effective?

When i was a high school student, there are times where some of my classmates,
even me, did not understand the lesson. When my mathematics teacher ask us if we
understand it, here comes so many questions from my classmates, but me, im just listen to
their question and to my teachers explanation. After that, she will gave another simple
example to complicated example. This kind of teacher is effective because she always
explain the part of the lesson we cannot understand, and also the example she gave is from
simple to hard examples which is correct way.

2. With the principle of individual differences in mind, what methods and strategies will
you remember in the future to ensure that you will be able to meet the needs of both the
high
and
low
achievers
in
your
class?
I will first that all of my students have unique personalities. There are all
have individual differences that I have to deal with. To be able to meet their needs in
the future I shall have them to cooperate with others so that what others know will
share to others. In this method I will be able to meet the needs of my students, and
also they will communicate with their classmates.

The teacher uses student centred learning such as class discussion

and small group work.

I just keep in my mind that all students are unique they have all
individual differences that make them differ from other. And by giving them
the needs in terms of learning, I will make some groupings which is the high
achievers will grouped by the low achievers. In that way they will share
knowledge each others, so that what others know will also cope by others, and
also this can help them communicate with others.

The learner is normal, he acts according to his age. So that Piaget's Theory of
Development is true.
Conclusions
I conclude that the parenting style of his mother is Authoritative because his mother is
not too strict with him, and his mother is lovable and caring. He gave advices to his child which
is good.

YourAnalysis
Your findings and recommendations in the Learner-Development Profile will
help you answer the question here.
1. Youre your home visit and interview, what do you think is the style of parenting
experienced
by
the
learner.
Explain
your
answer.
I can say that the parenting style of the mother i have interview is
authoritative, because she have some rules and regulations have to follow by her
son and if they obey it, she set consequences. In my own observation of her, i can
say that he did not say her feeling directly but in exerting effort, caring and
loving her son is her way of parenting.

2. Relating your data with what you learned from child development, and family factors
do you think contributed to the development and overwrite adjustments of the learner
in
school.
In relation to child and adolescent, i can actually say that the family build
who we are right now, because learning starts from our own family, they are the
one who care and build our personality. The factor that I think contribute to the
adjustment of the learner is the setting of rules and regulations when child is

inside or outside the house. The foods that the learners eat is also contribute to
the adjustment in school.

3. Does the communication between the home-school have an effect on learner? If yes,
what

are

these

effects?

Yes, it will affect on the learner because they might feel that they have to study very
well because their parents are expecting them to be good in school and also their
parents will felt happy whaen all the positive comments are being state by their teacher.

YourReflections
1. Reflect on your own development as a child. What type of parenting did you

experience?

How

did

it

affect

to

you?

As a daughter of my authoritative parents, i am so lucky that they made me

like this. They set some rules that i have to follow or else i will be punished. and of
course i did not want to be punished, because some other time i obeyed the rules i
came late, my mother deducted 20% on my allowance per day. I feel the love and
care of my mother because of the efforts she gave me. Even my father, before he
died, i also feel the love because he always want me to be happy. And this is the
reason why I am pursuing my dreams to be a teacher someday, to help them, my parents.
2. As a future teacher, how would you establish good home-school collaboration?

How can you work well with the parents? How can you help them? How can they
help
you?
As a future teacher, I have to talk to the parents of my students, because they
must know how their child act inside the room. So that i have decided that every
grading period, parents of my future student will meet for the parents to know the
attitude and improvement of their child.

Optional Reflection Activities

The way parents handling or caring his son will made thei child discipline.
Prnper setting of rules and regulations inside and outsid the house will give the
them limitations. Connections between home and school will help parents to

Portfolios are collections of students work

representing a selection of performance. A portfolio
may be a folder containing a students best pieces
and the students evaluation of the strengths and
weaknesses of the pieces. It may also contain one
or more work-in-progress that illustrates the

creation of a product, such as an essay. The

purposes of the teachers or educators in portfolio
are for them to know if the students understand
the lesson or not, to see the product of their
performances and it is used as an assessment tool.

I observed the strategies and methods that the teacher uses.

The lessons about Principles of Teaching discussed by my

the individual differences of teacher, on the way they teach and
manage students. I am happy when I am observing the school
