Revolution Project
The Industrial Revolution, which took place from the 18th to 19th centuries, was a
period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America
became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, which began in
Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in peoples homes, using hand
tools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special-purpose
machinery, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with
the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution,
which also saw improved systems of transportation, communication and banking.
While industrialization brought about an increased volume and variety of
manufactured goods and an improved standard of living for some, it also resulted in
often grim employment and living conditions for the poor and working classes.

The Project:
In groups of 4 (no more, no less), students will be assigned/choose topics that deal
with the Industrial Revolution in Modern World History. Groups will be given class
time, lab time and library time to research and create their products.
The culminating event of this Project is a presentation day.
Imagine an old-school science fair. In a room somewhere on campus, your group
will set up a project where you and your classmates will be the experts on your
topic. You will offer pamphlets, the electronic presentation and conversation to
anyone who comes up to discuss your topic. Not only will you be teaching your
fellow classmates about your topic, you will also have the opportunity to walk
around and learn from your classmates and other World History students work.
Throughout the process of the project, your group will have several due dates to
which you must adhere these dates and what is due is listed below. You will be
required to research your topic and provide valid resources for your information.
Your grade will be based on a rubric that you will receive soon. It will also be
available on each individual teachers website.
