Volume 3
4 March 2016

From Room 24
Around the World with Room 23
Here are some our takes on our assembly:
Our assembly was about an adventure book called
Around the World in 80 Days, by Jules Verne. Its
about a man named Phileas Fogg who bets half his
fortune with his friends
Bryke
Phileas is a man of routine. He goes to his Reform
Club and makes a bet that he could travel around
the world in 80 days.
Daisy
Our assembly was about a story in 1872 so we had
to dress up as in the olden days.
Brad
My favourite part of the assembly was the dances.
Izabella
I enjoyed all of the dances. The French dance
because it was elegant and graceful. The Mexican
dance was entertaining and fun. The Jamaican
dance because the audience enjoyed the boys
dancing down the aisle and around Mason. Hannah
I just loved how the costumes matched the dance.
Being in the French dance was an achievement.
Emily
My favourite bit was when everyone was dancing
because they all had different moves.
Olivia
My favourite part was dancing in the French dance.
I think the assembly was creative.
Leah
Mine was dancing in the Mexico dance because I

got to dance.
Kohen
My favourite part was all of it because it was all so
good. I love how everyone joined in and did a
dance.
Jemma
Mine was the Mexican and the Jamaican because I
like Mexican and I know that Bob Marley wrote and
sang the Jamaican song.
Elli
I liked the bit where the girls did the Mexican Hat
Dance.
Gabby
My favourite was when I was in the French dance. It
was fun but I was nervous too.
Amy
Mine was when I played the maracas. Shianne
I was second in line in the French song. I was so, so
excited!
Grace
My favourite was the French song because I had to
dance with a boy and I have never danced with a
boy before.
Mia
I loved the dances. It was fun and happy and cool
and I was really scared.
Mikayla
I was in the Jamaican dance and I got to dance up
and down the aisle.
Marley
I dressed up as Bob Marley and the part I loved was
when I danced.
Mason
All the speakers were great at speaking. On the day
everybody was pretty relaxed.

Tiqbiz is coming !
One of our goals in 2016 is to improve our school to home communication. Tiqbiz is one strategy that we
hope will help and will be implemented soon. Thank you to the P&C for the financial support.
Tiqbiz is a school engagement and parent communication app . More than just a school communication
app, it can assist in the management of absences/attendance, replace paper permission forms with
electronically signed forms and enrich the parents involvement in the schools curriculum and activities.
More news next newsletter! Prepare to get on board!!!!!!!!
Assembly
Well done to Room 24 on a terrific assembly. Unfortunately I could not attend but many commented on
what fabulous performers and speakers you all are! I cant wait until I can go around the world in 80 days
Next Friday's assembly will be hosted by Year 5/6 students of Room 22. The school looks forward to all
family and friends attending. Dont forget the start time of 9am.

Student Absence from School
Students are required to attend school on a regular basis to gain the maximum benefit from schooling.
Research has established that every day counts and that there is no safe level of absence from school. For
example, a student who is absent from school one day a fortnight will, by Year 9, have missed the equivalent of
one year of schooling. Ensuring parents are aware of the importance of regular school attendance is a current
priority in Department of Education schools. For this reason, I request that parents who will be taking their child
out of school for holidays contact both the class teacher and myself to advise of the absence. Parents with
children who regularly miss school due to appointments in class time should also advise the school. Student
absences can only be recorded as authorized if notification from a parent has occurred and therefore it is
important that the school is aware of the reason for your child missing school.
Late notes should be obtained from the office for any students arriving after the start of school which is 8.50.

In 2016 RAC is giving five schools $5,000 to spend on resources. For a chance to win, simply join the RAC Little Legends
Club!
The RAC Little Legends Club is a free and exciting new program designed to help your child learn all about bicycle,
pedestrian and passenger safety. Learning is fun and it's also aligned to the Australian curriculum!
Once they join kids will get their very own membership pack and access to great benefits and discounts on heaps of fun
stuff!
It is just a matter of signing in online .

CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES

We look forward to your support in paying these voluntary contributions
Kindergarten $50
Pre-Primary
$60
Years 1-6
$60
These funds will be used to provide additional resources for all students.
An outline of possible charges for each year level was provided at the end of last year. Please use this to
anticipate educational expenses for the year. Charges will be collected at the time the particular event, such as
an excursion, occurs.
If you have any queries on contributions and charges, please contact the office. Payment can be made by
cash, cheque or bank deposit (BSB 016-510 AC 340823089). We do not have EFTPOS facilities.
Last year Yakamia PS had a contribution rate was 55%. Im sure we can improve in 2016. After all $60
per year is only $15 per term or $1.50 per week! Less than half a cup of coffee!!!
And you can.
Win back your Voluntary Contributions!
Pay your childs school fees before the end of Term 1 and you will go into the raffle to win back the money!
Three prizes are up for grabs. One entry is given to each child who has paid. (i.e. a family with 3 children
attending YPS, will have 3 chances to win).
Thank you to the P&C for generously sponsoring this idea.

The Year 4, 5 and 6 Faction Swimming Carnival was held on Tuesday 1 March. This was our first
trial at separating the swimming carnival from the fun events. The students not competing in the
races walked down to the pool at lunchtime. Once again we would like to thank the parent volunteers
who helped on the day and all the parents and grandparents who turned up to show their support.

Library Book Change Timetable 2016 (Above)

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The attached Library Book Change timetable helps remind students when to Return library items, and
to have ready a Library book change bag (a plastic bag is also okay).
Please display the timetable at home for easy access.
Although students can book out books each school day we do ask, that on their bookchange day,
they return all books.
If they have not finished reading a book they are able to return and borrow the book out again.
Some other important notes
* Can you remind your children about preventing water and food accidents whilst books are
in bags
* How to take care of books around the homeand where to place books so they do not get lost in
the home.
The above helps prevent books, CDs etc.., from becoming lost, and also having to pay for lost books.
Sometimes, a lost book decides to come out of hiding, (could have been under the Tonka toy,
in the toy box, under the bed, in the car,in the spare bedroom at Nannas place! ).
At these times we will return in full any replacement money that has been paid
as long as the book is still in reasonable condition.
Thank you for your ongoing support for your Childs Library.
Mr Kosovich and Mrs Sandilands
