Part 1: Assessment Technology

Lets talk about the weather

All month we have discussed and reviewed the different types of weather. Today
students will take a formative assessment on the different types of weather. The
assessment is composed of true/false and multiple choice questions for the students
to answer. Students will have twenty five minutes to complete assessment. The
weather assessment will be given via technology through Socrative.com. I will use
data generated by the computer to assess my teaching strategies and techniques. If
ninety five percent of students pass the assessment I will move to the next subject.
If a large percentage of students fail, I will evaluate my teaching strategies and
reteach subject utilizing a different method to reach students.

This paper will discuss Assessment Technology. Assessment Technology is a very

important tool for teachers to utilize when administrating assessments to students.
Assessment Technology is an interactive and engaging tool that teachers to assess
students via technology through the use of desktop- computers, laptops, I pads or
tablet. Assessment can be formative or summative. Technology assessment can link
instruction to both formative and summative assessments. Chappuis and Chappuis

assess the student on whether its multiple choice, true/false, or short responses.

Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student Learning

Teachers can utilize technology to facilitate ongoing efforts to assess student learning by
allowing students to complete assessments, providing students with results immediately and
giving students immediate feedback to questions they may have pertaining to class via
technology. Serval software are made readily avail for teachers usage when giving students an
assessment. Teachers can also create a blog for his or her class, where students can ask questions
and post their concerns for the class. This tool will facilitate ongoing efforts to assess student
learning through the academic year. There are several software that teachers can used to evaluate
students learning via assessment such as eportfolios, Clickers and Blackboard Test & Respondus.

For All Rubrics:

Teachers can use this For All Rubrics software to assess student learning during class. For
All Rubrics Software is free, it allow teachers the opportunity to create and recreate, import and
score rubrics that is assigned on technology such as I Pad, tablet or smart phone. In the event,
teachers dont have internet utilizing For All Rubrics teachers are able to collect valuable data

on all students. This software is able to compute data scores automatically. For convenience,
teachers are able save and print the rubric on each student as a spreadsheet or PDF. Which make
for all Rubric software readily available to teachers. A teacher can use this software to assess
students level of understanding.
Smart Responsive VE (for smartboards) is a software that allow students the opportunity
to respond to quizzes and questions generated by teachers to complete an assessment that is
needed. Students are able to use any technology device such as a desk top computer, I Pad, tablet
or laptop that have internet access. Students are able to answer quizzes and questions from
anywhere. A teacher can use the Smart Responsive VE after presenting explaining a new subject
to students. A teacher can use a Smart Responsive VE to assess students understanding of
material that was taught. A teacher can assign assessment during class or for homework.
Teachers can use the smart responsive VE software to assess student learning.

I thought is a software that teachers can use to assess students learning. The purpose of
this software is to help students develop literacy skills through the use of gathering ideas, help
planning projects and set goals for students. When a student answer discussion questions and
brainstorm ideas to complete an assignment teachers can see which direction the student is
headed as they formulate ideas from their brain. Teachers are able understand to students
thoughts. This software does have limitation for it is used for apple and I family technology
devices only. Teachers can use this software with I Pads, to assess students comprehension and
writing skills.

Formative and Summative Assessments

A formative assessment is the evaluation of student learning based on a specific time span at
multiple points by gathering a various activities and assignments to make sure the learner is
developing the knowledge, skills and ability to master the content. A formative assessment help
identify students strength and weakness. It help teachers to see what each student need help with.
A formative assessment have low point value. A formative assessment is used to develop goals
for students and allow teachers to target areas where the student need help. Summative
assessment is the process of evaluating the student learning at any given point in time. A
summative assessment is used to assess students levels of understanding of the subject that was
taught and count towards a grade for students. Summative assessment consist of high point value
which mean they weigh heavy on student overall grade such as a final project or an exam.
Technology can be used to facilitate formative and summative assessment through the use of
varies websites and apps to assess students level of learning. The previous software tools
mentioned above can be used for a formative assessment to set goals for students.

Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment

Using technology make administering assessments easier and faster. Teachers are able to teach
students using a variety of ways. Students are able to learn independently. Technology make
learning easier with visuals. Teachers are able assess students at the same, the computer
computes the grade and give immediate results for assessment. The cons of using technology to
facilitate assessment is it can become distracting for some students, students may forget how to
take an assessment manually, and student may become totally reliant on the use of technology for
assessment. The scoring takes more time for teachers to compute, teachers must individual each

assessment to fit student need. Technology is only able to grade true/false questions, multiple
choice question and fill in the blanks.

Should a teacher only use technology to assess student learning:

Just as technology opened new and exciting doors for technology and learning.
Technology open new doors for evaluating student performance Chapter 7 page 364.
Although technology is a valuable asset and allow teachers the opportunity to perform
assessment and receive results quickly. Teachers should not rely only technology to assess
student learning. Teachers should have a variety of ways to assess student learning.
Whether paper and pencil or through the use of technology. In the event that technology
crash or is no longer avail we should have a second plan or option to gather valuable data
that is needed on students.
What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?
ISTE is the international society for the technology in education. Because technology is
constantly improving and growing rapidly. The importance of assessment technology in
connection with the ISTE standards it improved through the use technology that allow teachers
to assess students faster and receive results within minutes. Establishing inclusion through the
use of technology in the classroom supports the ISTE standards which help students and
educators become successful in the digital world of technology.
Concluding Paragraph for Software to Support Assessment
Using software to support assessment give teachers the opportunity to become creative
when creating an assessment. Teachers are able to use various websites and apps to formulate
individual assessments for students. Through the use of technology students can receive an

immediate score for their assessment and teachers are able to provide feedback to students as
needed. Using software to support technology can make assessment much easier for teachers.
